FYI: Revving to redline upon starting the engine
I was washing, buffing and waxing my daughter's boyfriends 06 G35 today before they returned from a trip and in advance of them returning to school. At one point the car would not start and I quickly found the positive connection lose and tightened the clamp. Upon starting the engine would quickly rev to redline and back again and again. Restarting didn't help nor did disconnecting and reconnecting the terminal. That is when I joined this forum but a search did not turn up this problem.
FYI: I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and upon re-connection the engine idled perfectly.
Thought I would pass this unusual situation on in case it should happen to someone else out there.

Yes, that works...by disconnecting the negative side of the battery for up to an hour you're resetting the ECU. I can only imagine how confused it might have been getting occasional bursts from a loose connection...Gary
Did you spray water hard into the grille of the car? There's a chance that the MAF sensor got very wet as a result of a lot of moisture coming in through the intake and condensing on the sensor wire. I've had this happen on my Tacoma before and it would cause the truck to be hard to start right after an aggressive car wash, and sometimes would throw a CEL indicating MAF sensor problems. If I opened the hood for a bit, it would dry out and then start fine.
There's a chance that this happened to you, and the fact that you had the hood open in order to disconnect the battery also allowed enough airflow and sunlight to get at the entire engine bay that it dried out the MAF sensor as well. Just a thought.
BTW... I wish I dated women who had fathers as nice as you!

There was a little water involved. I used a leaf blower to dry out the engine compartment and did let it sit. I had a Z06 that blew a ECBM electronic brake control module just from changing a battery, so the momentary spark flash from a battery connection can be detrimental to the ECU. All I was thinking was BIG BUCKS!
The whole time I'm trying to figure out how to tell Taylor once he returned what had happened to his car.

Lol, you should see my neighbors. Their daughter has been dating, and recently got engaged to a future podiatrist. It's hillarious (and sad) watching the level of effort they've been expending to make that relationship work!

Anyway thanks for sharing. That is an interesting situation to remember for future.
yeah WTF? He gets the daughter, gets to go on a vacation with said daughter, and a detailed car for when he gets back? Something sounds fishy here. He left you with the keys and you went to the track with it didn't you?

I have a deal with my daughters that when they return from college to visit, I wash and wax their cars. I have always been troubled with the lack of soap on the Taylor's car, so I used this opportunity to put a buffer to the paint. My wife drives a FX45, and I have to admit, the Infinitis have a great paint job on them, better than my Z06. The black finish is back to showroom.
