Just curious if that's against the law or if you can get a ticket. If you go zero to the speed limit as fast as your G can go, is that wrong? For example, on an on-ramp to a freeway. You stop on the on-ramp, and gun it to 65 Mph. Anybody?

G's up...

In California they can cite you for "Exibition of Speed".

I think it's a coupla points.

If you chirp your tires they will get you for "unsafe start off" or even worse "reckless driving" here in Indiana. You should see what kind of tickets you get for slaloming cows!

I think in NY they'll give you aq ticket for "Unsafe driving" or "reckless driving". I wouldn't try if you were next to a cop.

I would say no and fight to the death to defend that. They state a speed LIMIT, as in a maximum speed, NOT a limit on how slowly you must achieve that speed or the rate of acceleration. How would they even clock this? It's far too subjective on the part of the police officer that it would never stand up in court. But I'm not a lawyer...

Here in California, they could ticket you for "reckless driving", "public endangerment w/ motor vehicle" and several others.......it's really up to the officer what he wants to cite from the vc (vehicle code)

Yeah, surprising how they have such a THICK book of laws on them... you think that if they REALLY wanted to pull you over that they couldn't find a reason for it? They're gonna have something to cite you on IF they really are in a pissy mood w/ you... kinda sucky

Mine was called "Contest of Speed" because the cop thought I was racing the car next to me.

"exhibition of speed" in alabama; still I use maximum acceleration whenever required for safe and orderly driving.

careless driving
wreckless driving
exibition of speed
willfull wreckless driving - if pedestrians within 50ft.
reckless endangerment - if passengers

Those come to mind right off. I've received the first 4. It's not much fun, especially the third or fourth trip when the judge is looking at your entire record.

In CA "Exhibition of speed" is when you peel out, so I'd say don't peel out when doing it....and don't do it from 0 speed...I mean cmon...who stops on an on ramp lol

Funny you ask that... I was pulled over FOR THAT EXACT thing a while ago. On a freeway entrance. Except in my defense, this freeway entrance was a stop sign with a 90 degree turn onto the freeway, with no acceleration lane...

What choice do you have but to drop the hammer, if you have to merge in with 70+mph traffic from a dead-stop, with no acceleration lane? Officer lectured me on exhibition of speed, but at least he didn't give me a ticket...

I doubt that would be hard to beat if you did get a ticket.
Surely a judge could understand that merging in traffic is difficult, and best done as quickly as possible.
Pity the cop wasn't a little more understanding.
Just a thought.
