Hi,

Last night I started hearing a weird noise whenever I turned the steering wheel. Almost like a screech.
It even happens when the car isn't moving.
Does anyone know a good idea of what the cause is?

You need to change or tighten the belts in the engine bay. If I remember correctly, there are 2 on our cars... one for the Power Steering/Air Conditioner, and one for the Alternator. They should be changed every 3 to 5 years depending on how much you drive.

Also check on the power steering fluid levels.. when its low it can make sounds cause of the stress on the pump

 

Ball joint issue

 

I did check the power steering fluid. Its basically at the max.

I went to two mechanics today.
He said the passenger side ball joint or something like that is broken and showed it to me.
He called infiniti for a quote on the price in front of me, yelled on the phone as if he's going for an oscar, and told me the part costs $550. He wants $970 for everything including labor.

The second mechanic said the problem was the same thing that the first guy said.
He offered part + labor for $320...

 

Sounds like they are quoting you a price to replace the entire steering knuckle, or at least the first guy is. You can buy just the ball joint (~ $60 on ebay) and have the old one pressed out and the new one pressed in. Will be a lot cheaper that way.
