Hey guys, I've never posted before, but here's my first. Anyway, looking at it from Infiniti/Nissan's perspective, why would they spend money to redeisgn the engine if it only made the car slower? Any sort of change on their part would cost more money, than if they just left it alone. I don't see how they could justify doing more design and changing manufacturing hardware for the engine changes if it didn't make the car better in some way. If the changes made the 2005's slower, then whichever project manager led the updates would surely be fired, since I'm sure a decent amount of money was spent on the changes. Hopefully we'll hear something from the major magazines within the next few months, but I think it would be a reasonable assumption that the 2005's performance is at least marginally better than the 2003/2004's
Hi Hayaku,
One would think that is a reasonable assumption, however it's pretty safe that marketing also plays a part in all of this. The cars are now 3 years old and it's time to inject a little more sex appeal into them and being able to advertise 18 more horsepower will help keep the car selling. How much the added weight and increased horsepower with the negative result on torque has changed the car will be known pretty soon. My guess is it will be a tenth or so quicker in the quarter.

it would be great if the 0-60 time was around 5.4 and a quarter of 13.7
but it might be to much to ask for, i think the numbers should be close to previous years maybe a few tenths faster

if you go to the topgear.com website, and click on the oddball road tests, they tested the skyline350gt in japan (well the really hot looking nismo edition with 300hp) and they seem to have liked the 350z better.

but well.... they dont make the skyline or g35 in europe. it'd be nice to hear what jeremy thinks.
