Rasp galore with new Berk HFC’s - Video Included

After being extremely excited on getting my new Berk HFC’s once installed not only is my exhaust too loud now but it rasps like crazy. I’m running the Stillen True-Dual which sounded excellent until the Berk’s were installed. I don’t want to ditch my Berk’s but need a solution fast. I don’t believe there is any way to mod the Stillen by adding additional resonators that I am aware of? I may just go with a quieter exhaust like the Fuji. Any suggestions on quieting it down and eliminating the rasp? My full list of mods is on the below video's YouTube page (click the youtube link).

Here is the rasp I am talking about:

Thanks in advance!

i had issues of rasp with my ark and my berks. i got the ART pipes and got rid of most of the rasp. To me, a lot of the rasp that i noticed was caused by the X pipe. With my Invidia true dual and the berks, i had no rasp, and the only real noticeable difference in the piping is the X pipe, and the mufflers, but the rasp sounded like it was coming from the X pipe. So that's my theory.

Unfortunately, this set up will probably just give you rasp unless you change the exhaust or the berks. *shrug* i could be wrong though.

Thanks for the quick reply! I agree with you about it's probably coming from the X-Pipe. I wish there was a quick and easy way to replace it but with it being a true-dual I don't believe I have any options outside of custom fabrication or swapping the whole exhaust out.

Here is a pic of the Stillen setup and doesn't look like I have any options on swapping out that X-Pipe.

yup, looks like your X pipe is connected to the entire Y pipe, so I think you're stuck. You could try ART pipes, but for some exhausts it gives more rasp, but for some it gives much less, if any. My ARK has almost no rasp now with my ART pipes.. but the berks were terrible. I think Berk are known for causing rasp. You could... just put up with it? lol

I have the stock exhaust with the BERKS and i have rasp.. no hiss, but the rasp makes the car seem cheap to me.. A tuner told me if I get a after market exhaust it will get rid of the rasp, but seem to me based on you guys that's not the chase

Yeah, that's not true whatsoever. Odds are, it will be come even worse. An aftermarket exhaust amlipies everything....so if you have rasp on hfc's with a stock exhaust, theoretically you'll have even louder rasp on an aftermarket one.

Does anyone have or have heard a Fuji with the Berk HFC's? I was only able to find 1 video with that setup on YouTube but still it's hard to tell if there was rasp.

I want to keep my Berk's because of their great flow and quality so I may lean towards a quieter exhaust like the Fuji. Then if that still doesn't work I can try the Motordyne XYZ pipe with resonator to calm the rasp down even more. Any thoughts?

There is no way to resolve it without some custom fab work. Because the Y-pipe and the X-pipe are one piece there is no way to replace the Y-pipe. There really are only 2 options, one being to somehow eliminate the x-pipe with straight pipes or cut out the mid-pipe resonators and replace with larger ones. Or just put the OEM cats back on I absolutely loved the sound with OEM cats!

I wanted to let everyone know that the Berk High Flow Cats is what is making the car sound bad with the rasp. The Stillen exhaust had the most amazing sound with zero rasp before installing the HFC’s. I would definitely recommend the Stillen exhaust for its fit & finish, sound and performance but you have to be careful with the HFC’s as they can cause nasty sounding rasp in most exhausts including my Stillen.

This is how great the Stillen sounded with the stock cats and I wish it sounded like this again (not my video or car):

did you use new oem gaskets when you swapped out the hfc's? You probably have a slight leak if you reused your old ones or the aftermarket chinese gaskets.

I have kinitex hfc's with a megan y pipe and stock exhaust. I new new oem gaskets on both the exhaust manifold side and y pipe side. the car basically sounds stock except for a slightly louder stock wable sound at 3k rpm.

if you heard my car next to a stock g35, you would have a hard time telling i had hfc's.

Why does this thread from my350z claim that fabricating an x-pipe actually helped reduce rasp?
