Rattle from the Rear...

Hello All,

I know that there are a million threads about some rattle from the rear of you car. After looking through about 20 of them, it didnt seem like any were the same as the one I am hearing. Most seem to be from the rear deck, interior of the car, or from the exhaust upon accelerating.

Mine is definetely from the exterior of the car. Its a rattle which I hear only when going over bumps in the road (CA roads are never smooth!), and usually only a low speeds although im sure it happens at higher speeds its just not loud enough to identify. Anyways its not something you "feel" when driving, but its something that you hear. I initially thought it was just the rear license plate, but after tapping on it for awhile, that thing barely moves. It seems like it might be from the suspension or something, but I was wondering if anybody had something similar that might point me in the right direction?

So in summary, definetely from the exterior, only when going over something uneven/bumps, you dont "feel" it when driving, a rattling noise which isnt the license plate.

Its so annoying!!

Have you had any suspension work recently? Other mods? Just trying to rule out possible culprits.

None, the car is bone stock minus some LED changes around the car. I just got it two weeks ago ('05 with 23K mi), but it very well could be the suspension, I just dont really want to take it to the dealer to have them rip it apart and find nothing as they usually do.

its very, very difficult to pinpoint rattles on first-gens, only because there are so many places where they can originate from. my best advice would be to have a buddy drive around, preferably on a bumpy road where the rattle is noticeable, and have you in the backseat and listen very carefully. you can try this with the seat off to confirm whether or not it is really an exterior rattle. also, if you think it could be as far back as the license plate, check the spare tire bay, make sure nothing is loose and clanging against something in there.
