Advance timing
Advance timing
Has anyone had any experience with advancing their timing?
If so who can do it & how much can it be advanced without doing harm

Re: Advance timing
I was under the impression that Infiniti already has the timing advanced to the ragged edge....

Re: Advance timing
i was under the same impression. for example my sister has an altima with the same engine, she has much less hp and she can use regular gas, if we used regular gas our cars would start pinging at WOT. our cars are pretty much tweaked to the capacity unless you get some kind of forced induction.
Re: Advance timing
Well, an Infiniti guy from Freshalloy advanced his 2*. It can go to a max of 5 but he figured that was safe....

Re: Advance timing
No question is stupid, if you don't know ask. Generally when you advance the timing at idle it affects the entire RPM range. But with computers controlling everything these days, this is not always the case. The reason is that, at any point in the RPM the computer can change fuel and ignition to match what the engineers programmed the AFR (Air Fuel Ratio) should be. Then you add in all the other sensors and on and on and on.......

Re: Advance timing
i just read an article yesterday on octane because alot of people on freshalloy think part of the 20hp difference between the coupe and the sedan has to do with the octane you can use in each car.
the article which came from the site howstuffworks said that higher octane must be used in higher compression engines, period. both the sedan and coupe and 350Z have the exact same compression ratio engines, which is 10.3
so, i don't know why you would be able to use a different octane on either car.
