wheel performance
wheel performance
I'm extremly stuck between getting 19's or 20's. How many of you have 20's and are happy with the performance aspect. I hear they really take away from performnce as far as handling, braking, and even accelerating. If this is true or not I really would like to know because as of right now I'm leaning twords 20's dropped on tein 350z s-techs
I'm not a fan of 20" wheels due to the extra weight and putting extra stress on the suspension. Optamim tire for our rides is 18" but the 19" look so much better, that where I draw the line....Gary
if you want 20's, get 20's. yes, it will adversely affect performance. even if they're light weight it's still pushing rotational mass further out. 20lb 18's will perform better than 20lb 20's of the same width. a lot of people choose 19's because it's a good trade of of look's and performance.
18 is the best tire size for performance. This is why a huge chunk of race tires come in sizes no bigger than 18 (drag radials too). Notice that the Falken Azenis RT-615K (very well respected autocross tire) come in size no bigger than 18.
If you get really nice (read: lightweight) rims in 19" size, the impact vs 18's will be negligible - but still some impact compared to 18's of equal quality. Of course, if you aren't a race car driver, you probably won't notice this difference.
However, 18 to 20 you will more than likely notice. I'd personally go no bigger than 19's.

I definitely felt a difference going from 18s to 20s, but I will take the mild loss of power and harsher ride for the looks. I get much more looks and compliments with my 20s. I think it makes my G much more unique. I live in downtown DC so performance only really matters when I hit the highways. Its really up to you. I rather have my car look good when I am stuck in traffic.
Here is an attached pic of how 20s look without a drop. I do want to drop it slightly eventually.
