Add aftermarket wheels to insurance??

Hey all,

I am about to get aftermarket wheels from another member and I was considering adding them to my insurance policy since they are quite expense. I have a couple questions though:

Do many/any of you do this?
Does anybody know how much the premium will roughly go up?
As I am buying them from another member, I wont have an official "reciept". Will this cause problems when trying to do a claim in the future?

This is my first time getting aftermarket wheels which have a high value and I would probably cry if I found my car on blocks one day. I dont live in a sketchy neiborhood but still, I am getting kinda paranoid after seeing this thread: http://www.myg37.com/forums/3155994-post15.html

1: When I first got them I added it to my insurance.
2: The depends on the insurance company you have. For example when i was with Geico.. it was a 40.00 add on. My current insurance told me they cover anything under a 1000 bucks.. if it's over that there is a fee.
3: Geico didn't have for the original receipt . They did ask what type of rims they were and the price of them.

Perfect, I have Geico as well. Was that $40 more a year, month, 6 months? So they jsut asked you what types of wheels they were, no pictures or nothing?

$40 for 6 months..
I'm gonna assume they really don't care what type of rims they are... They sure want to know how much u are willing to insure them for.. Say for example if u have 5000 wheels they may want to add a 100 bucks to ya policy.

You can always call and ask them.. I'm sure they would answer..

I have Geico..

So would a "reciept" from the seller work? Like if I drafted up a little document and the seller signed and dated it would that work? I dont want to be SOL just because I didnt buy them new.

This is an interesting question. While i know you can add them to your policy, you have to be careful with the "fine print" to make sure theyre actually covered in your situation. I also have geico and just bought wheels. I do have a reciept though so im probably alright.

by default progressive will cover up to $1000 in aftermarket parts before you have to adjust your policy to cover more. I really only have my rear bumper atm that I'm worried about, got it for $200 and $200 for paint so I'm good for now once I finish my bodykit then I'll look at getting more...

U don't have to switch insurance .. just add the wheels to the policy and if they cost more than 1000, just add them to the policy. It's not gonna change that much anyway..
