Crack above driver's side window?!? Help/advise needed!

Hey guys!

I'm new to this forum, and I've been on my350z.com for over 2 years. I recently sold my Audi and am most likely going to buy a G35 coupe.

I'm looking at this 2005 G with literally every option possible. 102k miles. $11.7k cash. It is one of the best deals I can find for what I want in the car, however, it has this:

Does anyone know what this piece is made of? And what the part number is so I can look up a quote for replacement?

On a side note, when I owned my Audi, there was a site that everyone used for OEM replacement parts that were over 50% off the dealer prices...so if I site like this exists for G35's, please let me know!

Thank you all and I look forward to owning a G35 6MT here in the next week!

stay away from 05 6MT, lots of them have oil consumption issues due to new rev up. I would recommend 06 if you want the rev up

^The 06's can have the OC issue as well and not everyone with the rev-up has it.

OP, a stealership will be able to tell you the part number.

Yes but from the stuff i read before buying, those are much less common. to avoid it i went with 04. Just trying to save him from being stuck with an oil consumer.
i got my 04 with aero package and brembo's for 12,500 with 60,000 miles and nearly perfect exterior. I would do what you can to lower the price if it has that crack.

Guys, I owned a rotary and a the 2.0T A4, both of those are crazy oil consumers...

Let's stay on topic please.

Anyone know what the part is made of? I don't necessarily need the part number, but I would like to know what it is made of to see if my body shop could fix it or not!

Okay, thanks. I guess i was somehow on the FX section instead of G......hmm.

Well, are we for sure it's that one?

Could it be #8 on this section? : http://www.infinitipartsusa.com/part...iagram=3845385

Cuz $308 seems like a lot...but then again it does come painted...

Also, do you know what it is made of?

Be careful, as a new painted part won't match 102k mile sun faded black.

That's a lot of miles, you sure you want something that's been driven that much?

Yeah I realize that the black will be faded... but let's just say my body shop is really good, and will be able to match it perfectly if it isn't "good enough" as it comes.

And I know 102k miles is a lot. But looking around, just about 90% of the 2003's I found had at least 90k miles, and the 2004's were almost equivalent. Then the 2005's I saw, only about 50% of them had less than 75k miles, and were priced at least at $15,000. So for a fully loaded (literally every possible option) 2005 with 25k more miles priced $3,000 less than most unfully loaded 2005's, I feel that I'm getting a great deal. It has a perfect carfax, and it's made by IMO the most reliable company out there (or, at least a lot more reliable than the past RX8 and Audi I owned).

I'm happy with what I'm going to be getting...it has a brand new clutch and flywheel, and I think it will last me for the time that I need it for (at MOST 15 months) before I'll sell it. Probably less. And since I'm pay under $12k for it, and I'll have $17k left over from my Audi sale, I feel like I could afford any service it may need (barring the engine blowing up).

Get the service history from you local dealership. If the car was taken care of properly, long block or short block may have been replaced under warranty. There was a TSB out for the oil consumption issue and my '06 is actually at the dealership right now getting a new short block under warranty.

I'm pretty sure that piece is made of some sort of plastic. The one on my car is cracked too so I put an ad up on this site and got a red one (my car's IP) for $150 shipped. I have some left over paint that I bought from automotivetouchup.com (in spray paint cans) and I'm going to paint this piece myself. If it doesn't turn out, then I'll take it to a paint shop and have them spray it for me.

Okay, thanks for the heads up. I was planning on having it "serviced" at my local Infiniti dealer a couple days after I pick it up anyways, but I will ask in more detail over the topic you have mentioned.

Thanks for all the information guys. If I have any other questions I'll just ask by starting a new thread, barring my inability to find the topic after searching in the forums first.

Mods, my initial desire for starting this thread has been satisfied.

This thread can now be closed.

Thanks!
