With summer coming up and the previous owner not maintaining my car very well, i figured id do a tranny, diff and oil change. Just wondering what everyone uses for these fluids? Anything else i should do while im at it? Like clutch fluid? My car has 187000km (ugh) and itll all be done on my driveway.
Ps. Last time i did an oil change i did royal purple oil with k&n oil filter.
Thanks!

Amsoil gear oil in the differential, Nissan Manual Trans. fluid in the tranny, Amsoil brake/clutch fluid, Prestone Coolant, and German Castrol for motor oil.
Seems like a lot of people use ams oil. What weight do you guys use?
Also i read that the manual clutch fluid really doesnt nee to be changed. Do you think i should?

For the tranny fluid. DO NOT do a full system flush. Do a partial. If you do a full flush then expect to have to get a new transmission within the next few months or so.

He has a manual transmission. I think you're thinking about an Auto Tranny, because you don't really every "flush" a manual tranny. You just drain the old fluid out and replace it with new fluid.Originally Posted by prinny

Flushing your auto tranny will not cause any problems as long as you keep up with it on a regular basis and don't neglect changing your tranny fluid for too long. People run into problems with flushing auto trannies when they don't do any maintenance to the vehicle for like 120K miles, and then do a flush. The reason they have problems is that big chunks of caked on build-up in the transmission become dislodged by the flush and wedge themselves into oil passageways in the tranny, and block flow of oil to those spots. Then you end up burning out those parts of the tranny at an extremely accelerated rate. This doesn't really happen if you flush your tranny every 30 or 40K miles if you have an auto tranny. Personally, I'm not a big fan of flushes on auto transmissions anyways.... just a fluid change, since they can actually change all of the fluid in your transmission if they use a machine to do so (which you can't do efficiently in your driveway with an auto tranny).
Sooo...im ok with a manual? Lol
I think im gonna do royal purple for my oil again. Should i do it for the other fluids too? At least the fluids that royal purple makes?
What weight do you guys use?
Thanks for all the help!

5w30 as long as you're NA, I'm sure the dif hasn't been changed for a good while, might as well change that too

On trannies I would stick with oem fluid. You want reliability in a transmission. Oil and diff you can experiment with.

What are you basing this on? For auto trannys I would agree, ONLY use nissan fluid but not the 6mt.Originally Posted by TemjinX2

Transmissions are pretty sensitive to fluids even manuals. I'm basing this off past experience my past cars and the g35. Also my buddy has a 320awhp Evo 8. He transmission was fine he did a tranny fluid change with royal purple and the car shifted like crap. He would grind in 3rd and 5th. He didn't grind before. Originally Posted by seymore4

He went back to oem fluid and the transmission shifted like butter.
