04 5spd auto rev matching possible?
04 5spd auto rev matching possible?
Is it possible to make the 04 match revs when down shifting like the 05's? Can you reprogram it or something? Is it more complex than that? What actually tells the engine to blip up before the shift?
I want my car to do that.

I don't believe you could truly "rev match" on an auto.

The 05 matches the rpm as you down shift to provide a smoother shift when you are in the manual shift mode with the automatic tranny. Its simular to doing a heel toe shift. The 04 just simply shifts.
The question is: can you get the 04 to shift like the 05?
Seems like it would be a simple mod, but I may be wrong.

The rev matching on the 05' auto tranny works very well.
As far as modification to the older non-rev matching transmissions, It would involve changes to the hardware and software in the transmission. If you ever see the inside of a modern electronically controled transmission you would see that major changes are unlikley.

I've managed to do it on my 03, the timing is key.
You need to downshift then immediately blip the gas almost to the point where your doing both simultaniously. With the .25/.05? second delay the transmission has between shifts you can rev up the motor freely and then catch the next lower gear as your rpm's are coming down. It's pretty hard to do effectively all the time but you'll know when you hit it right.
Now trying to modulate the brake with the left foot smoothly while doing all the shifting and blipping is my problem.
Was that any help?

i dont think the tranny would like you for helping it rev match just let it work itself? you shouldnt be changing the gears too much on an auto anyways but when you down shift you can put some pressure on the gas and it'll be smoother and let off the gas when your upshifting.. iono if thats any good for your tranny though.. i've always been told to stay off the gas
uses the brakes to brake... not the transmission.... but using the transmission to keep the speed down, say... going down a LONG hill instead of letting the auto shift to 4-5 so u start speeding up, if u MM to 2nd or 3rd it should keep ur car from speeding up too much....
Back to the original question
I take it no one has a definitive answer on whether or not you can get the 04 to blip the throttle automatically as the 05's do.
I had an 05 loaner for a few weeks as my 04 was getting re-painted. the down shifting while it was clicked over to manual mode was amazingly smooth. The nice thing was that if you were slowing down for traffic or something and say you were in 4th, but should have been in 2nd while at idle it bliped the throttle and avoided the jerk of shifting while going to slow. It also made it easier to avoid "engine braking" by downshifting because you could hit the brakes and then find the correct gear.
Heal toe shifting (which is only possible with MT, and is the desired result of the auto rev matching) and engine breaking have been covered in other threads.

Talk to the dealer about this he may know of a reprogram available for your G.
