Tiptronics on all japanese cars are horrible. Takes around 2 seconds to shift. The only companies that makes decent tiptronic autos are BMW and Mercedes, especially mercedes with the AMG models. They usually shift in one second.
I'm speaking tiptronics as in transmissions with a torque converter and excludes DSG or duel clutch systems.
Anyways, for non bmw or mercedes, just leaving the car in auto and gunning it is usually faster then using the shifter. The shifter is only good if you want to hold a certain gear for example autocross and keeping it in 2nd gear.

No... it might be different if you were running in boost or heavily modified. I'm not sure what year your car is- a rev up 07 model would probably shift in that range anyway while the older non-revups rev limiter is a bit lower.
Either way, you're fine but like Gary points out anticipate the delay and shift sooner. I also find that I need to let up on the gas slightly to "coax" the shift. Then again, I'm shifting at 450ft/lbs of tq so the rules are a bit different.

^Not always. Even a good driver can have a challenge trying to shift as fast as our trannys can with the VB upgrade.
OP, If I remember correctly the limiter is at 6700rpm, so you want to shift at low 6K. I've always aimed for 6-6200rpm.
It is an automatic
