Re: Navigation System

Hmmm Good Luck. If you not worried about warranties then ask around at local car audio shops. My advise is to go to one that is fairly large and knows what they are doing. I've had 2 shops offer to put a DVD player in and hook it up to the stock nav screen but they said it would cost somewhere between 800 and 1400 bucks. They claim that their is some harness that does it and doesnt void the factory warranty but who knows. If I do get it done I will post pics and reviews though but that won't be done for a while. Goodluck.

Re: Navigation System

Hi,

I believe the DVD nav system in the vehicle is not one that allows for playing DVD's on it.Its strictly made for navigation, and I believe the least Infiniti could have done was designed it, especially b/c pf high price tag, top allow doe playing DVD's on it.

Re: Navigation System

because of sue happy citizens there are reasons why the navigation won't play movies. I guess states laws too make it so that nissan can't release a car with a system the plays movies infront of the driver.

It would of been nice if the navigation designers left an easy way to mod the navi to play movies. Like leaving a secret back door, that they could spread by word of mouth and everyone would find out through the grape vine.

Re: Navigation System

There are state and/or federal laws prohibiting television/movie type stuff to be played where it is visible to the driver.

Re: Navigation System

I heard somewhere that the Skyline(G35) in Japan plays DVD movies on the NAVI.

Re: Navigation System

Yeah I heard that too. You would think if they work in Japan the least they could do is make the DVD feature work while the car is in park or has the handbrake on. Then of course you trick the car into thinking it is in park or has the handbrake on but whatever.

Re: Navigation System

My car salesman told me..... hush hush. He said there was a single wire that was preventing you from playing Dvd's. He also said he could get into lots of trouble for telling me. He had mentioned the website G35club.com would give me the info. That website seems to be under construction, does anyone know about that?

Re: Navigation System

That sounds feasible. If the JDM version plays DVD's, the cheapest way for them to produce the units is to only produce one unit, and turn off the DVD feature in our version. If that's the case, it may simply be a matter of discovering the secret "on" switch - be it a wire we snip, or solder on, or whatever.

Re: Navigation System

That sure looks like more than a simple switch to me!! I dont know about you guys but doing all that looks a little confising to the untrained electrical engineer. Plus messing around with a $2000 nav unit on your own can be a bit risky. Personally I would rather have an install done and pay for it from a reputable audio shop. this way you have someone to blame if something goes wrong. Little insurance policy. just my opinion.
