to nav or not to nav, that is the question.
The cost effective route is to buy an aftermarket navi. I've seen one for $1000 at Sam's, and you could move it from car to car (attaches, I believe, to the windshield).
But I spent the money in 2003 to get it. I felt I would regret not spending that money, which wasn't that much compared to the total cost of the car. Plus it gives you a few extra functions like gas mileage.

Of course, sometimes you wonder about the route it choses.
And there is one stretch of road in Texas that it doesn't mind me going south on, but it SURE doesn't want me to go north on that same road. It will complain for miles that I should make a u-turn.

I love mine and wouldn't be without it.
