to nav or not to nav, that is the question.

just like the title says, is it worth paying the extra $2k for the nav system? i've never had a nav system before, so i won't be missing much. also, cost is not the issue. i'm more concerned about added convenience, and resale value, etc.

It all depends how much driving you will be doing, and if you are male or female :P If you want it just to show off to your friends that you push a button and a screen pops out, then its not worth it..

driving: average (usually local, into the city once a week, couple of <6 hours road trips per year).
sex: male (but my wife will drive the g also)
showoff: yes, i had a motorized screen installed in my accord, but then removed it cause everytime i wanted to listen to music, i had to open the screen. kinda lost interest in the new toy....lol

i guess it will depend on how the negotiations go w/the dealer. i think $2k is too much. but if its part of a packaged deal that is appealing, i may go for it.

If cost is not an issue for you, than get it. Even if you think you don't want it. For starters, it will help resale value. And two, you'll probably like it more than you think...

I only got nav, because I wanted the trip computer and stuff. (Even though it wasn't quite what I thought it would be). But I love the NAV, and because of it, I actually regret not getting my wife's TL with the NAV.

Yeah, sure, I probably don't use the NAV, to get to my destination, because I know my way around here, but I love the phonebook functionality. I'm always looking up phone numbers to call ahead to see if they're closed, make reservations, etc. We've also been "exploring" our own metro area, and trying new places and such too, using the NAV. I've managed to find a "shortcut" home from the mall, that I never knew about.

The detour functionality is cool too. There were times when I was on the freeway, and traffic came to a grinding halt. I just exited at some place I've never been before and hit the detour button, (or just keep driving aimlessly on a side street, and let it auto-reroute), and took the scenic way home.

i think it's worth it.. it's more than a navi.. it has other features also like distance to empty, average MPG, trip/ run time meter, oil change indicator ETC ETC... i use the distance to empty the most.. i don't even look at my gas gauge anymore. to me it's very useful.

Too bad on my 04', the Fuel Economy page on the Navi, doesn't have an electronic clock on it, like the other screens Though on the 05' it's a non-issue, since the screen doesn't block the analog clock. Otherwise, I'd leave it on the fuel economy page as well, as I do that on my other car. I guess I'm too lazy to use my watch to see what time it is

It's been said so many times before in other threads and I guess I'll be the first on this one. You can easily find people on here saying "I wish I had gotten the nav" but out of over 10,000 members I think I've seen one person say "I wish I didn't get the nav".

Bought my first car without it and kicked myself afterwards, now with the new car I def. purchased it. I seem to use it alot more than I ever thought I would and I never get lost anymore....isn't that a surprise.

I went without one since I only use this car near by my home where I pretty much
know my whereabouts.

But if it was on my family car where I might take it on vacation or something, then
I would consider getting a NAV in it.

Love mine. It's my 1st car with Navigation and it is so much easier than pulling an old Rand McNally.

If cost is not an issue, you must get the Nav. If you keep your car for say 5 years, by then everyone will have a Nav in their Corolla or Civic. How will you feel if you don't have it in your G? Besides, the '05 G has motorized pop-up function for the Nav screen. Can't beat that for coolness.

Wellz, I'm getting one for many factors though.

1. Looks cool and its a nice showoff toy.
2. Its more then just a nav to me, it does other stuff too as some had posted above.
3. I'm planning to hook my xbox, watch tv and dvds on it.
4. Oh, for maps and directions too.

The first time you get lost in a bad neighborhood it pays for its self!

i have said before, but imo navigation is worth every penny.. i regret so much not getting one. i'm looking around for aftermarket now, but i can never seem to retain that factory look unless i pay ridiculous amount of $$. not that i will use it everyday, but it's a cool feature, gets a lot of attention, and nice to know it's there when i need it.
