But i solved the problem this weekend. While i was vacuming my trunk i removed the cardboard that covers the spare tire and was rattling things around to see if the noice was coming from there. nothing made the noise when i moved it, but i pulled out my jack and when i did the plastic tray it lays in made the thump noise!!

So to "fix" the issue i took a couple of blue garage paper towels and placed them under the legs of the plastic jack tray. no more thump.

if you are looking down at the jack go all the way to the right by the fender and reach your hand underneath the tray, you will feel a plastic leg that rests on the floor pan, place some thin padding under this spot. then if you look on the tray towards the bumper there is another leg that rests against the rear of the trunk, place some padding under this one also.

Hopefully you are having the same issue, i have been searching for this source of this noise for months, glad i didnt have to replace bushings....yet.
Funny that you mentioned this. While I was looking for the cause of the noise I thought it could be the jack tray so i used a piece of blue towell to muffle/eliminate the sound, however it didn't get rid of my noise.

This weekend I'm going to take off the rear sway bar and drive around a bit to see if that changes anything. I'll keep you all posted... It really sounds like its coming from the rear glass, or rear deck. I may also try sitting back there while someone else drives up and down a driveway curb.
I've wanted to ride in the back with rear seat down to try to pin point the area (high/low) of where the noise is coming from but I haven't had the time. I hope you can give it a shot, let us know what you find... Appreciate you staying on this. I'll let y'all know if I figure something out.

Yeah unfortunately the noise has returned, after some hard bumps. I need to look and see if the padding moved out of the way or keep looking for the issue.

I didn't want to open up a new thread as I already did in one of the regional forums (Canada):
https://g35driver.com/forums/canada/...need-help.html

Here is a Youtube link of the noise I'm getting from rear:
http://youtu.be/xNmcRbIvQQU

Need help! Is it something to do with the interior, body or suspension parts?

Buckle up the rear seat belts. At least that's what was causing a slight thunk on my right rear side. Worth a try?? The little weird noises can be so aggravating to figure out!

I know, even the mechanics can't figure out. I fastened the rear seat belts, put the seats back on. The noise seems less louder as the seats went up again. With the rear seats put down, I hear it clearer & louder. So, it's coming from back of rear seats, like trunk or anything around it.

Any1 else had this? I'm really looking forward to your help as I may go to one of the shops who still thinks there may be something loose in the strut. And eventually, that may cost me new strut - KYB.

I gave up on the noise.... It was driving me crazzzzzzy trying to figure it out. I too thought of replacing the rear struts, but haven't done so yet due to funds. I've inspected the rear suspension multiple times, re-torqued whatever I could find, replaced sway links and bushings, emptied trunk and drove for a week, removed rear seat, noise still there... I truly think it was to do with the rear glass!! I was going to try driving with the rear sway removed, but haven't done so yet. Its getting cold up up here and I don't want to start tearing into the car on the driveway.

Have you noticed that the noise is louder and more frequentwhen it's cold? Here in Texas if it's under 60, I hear the nose alot more...

I went to the Mufflerman this morning, they put my vehicle up and showed me everything. Nothing seemed loose to make that rattling sound. There was a cover/filler underneath at right rear which was little loose, the tech screwed it tight. But obviously, that didn't make any difference.

By the way, I put K&N air filter from Part Souce right by the side of Mufflerman. Something to cheer me up...

I have this same noise, and noticed that as winter has started up, it's worse.

The noise is making me a little nuts, but I think I am gonna have to deal with it. Beater has a bearing (motor) issue.

Thus far I have:
*buckled up rear seat belts
Put seat up and down
Replaced rear shocks (with new upper mounts)

Seems to be from the passenger side.

bump for finding a root cause.

No different with temperature changes...

599Hornet--- You may be on to something!!! I've actually been also having issues filling up at gas stations... It fills up half was then the pump just clicks off. I've been reading about the shutter valve TSB's but... maybe there is something going on with the gas filler neck/hose!

not sure if this will help or not, but next time you are driving over the same conditions, pay attention to your sunroof (if youhave one). there is another thread on here about the sunroof making the same popping noise when going over bumps. chassis flex will create a lot of weird noises and just about every car i have owned with a sunroof has made some sort of strange noise going up and over big curbs/ speed bumps. worth looking into anyway

I checked all visible areas I could. The sound was from my rear for sure and anything on street would trigger it. It even starts when I first ignite and the car gets to move in underground garage.

Long story short, I've left my car in the shop. They didn't find any issue with struts, but found something loose in body area there. It resolved the issue according to them. I'll soon get it and let know what actually got fixed (or not).

Big bucks for the labor & peace of mind
