I have the same exact tapping noise at my rear glass/Rear deck area. I removed my entire rear interior, rear deck, panels, seats, stripped the trunk and could not pinpoint. I did have my rear glass replaced a few months back, I also just banged out a VERY old dent out of the rear wheel well pretty hard (removed the rear wheel) it seems the sound started right after that. Do you think I unseated the relatively fresh glass install?

Mines Is definitely not glass, Its a metallic "clunk" when riding over dips and winding turns. Drives me nuts

I dont even have to go over bumps or anything, dont even have to go fast or to far. Brought to the shop and had a guy inspect the glass he felt the glass was fine. Also it sounds a little to metallicy so not sure it was the glass afterall. He did ride in my trunk and he said he doesn't now for 100% but he said it has to be from the rear strut area, as that was where the sound seemed to be coming from and he had no other clue what the helll it could be. He said possibly just the mounting plate or some hardware in there, and maybe not the entire strut. Car has 98k miles, any thoughts?

Ok thanks I will check the glass but I think its really coming from that shock area in the rear. Are the subframe bushings item #4 in this blowout?

No. That's part of the shocks. You have to go aftermarket if you want to replace subframe bushings.

I had the same sound on my G but it's a Sedan, It drove me crazy, I was almost 100% it wasn' t the rear Strut. It ended up being a blown strut. I have no idea how I blew it, it was original OEM.
Also check the Rear Strut Knuckle Bushing. The bushing that holds the rear strut. If that bushing is worn it can be loud. It can also be the rear strut mount. Looking and seeing that you practically done everything except for replacing the shock, its' gotta be that.....

I didn't even think of this , but do you have aftermarket exhaust/sway bars? I know the stillen exhaust sits about 1/16" away from the stillen rear sway on the driver side I believe. They hit each other sometimes. If so, glueing a piece of rubber between them would probably be the only fix

Not sure gluing a piece of rubber that would hit the exhaust pipe is a good idea.

It's trial and error if it melts or not. No harm done

Any updates from anyone?

I've had the same noise since I got the car new and stock. Sway bar, brakes, and shocks are changed. Noise never left.
