How to know what tires to buy?
I was checking out this site http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...ype=bestseller
and I can't figure out why the 2nd pair is TWICE as costly as the first, when the ratings are 'almost' the same, as well as user reviews. Certainly not twice as high.
Would you get twice as many miles out of the 2nd pair? I mean how do you compare tires when you guys buy them, on what grounds do you make your purchase?

get the michelin pilot sport if you like to track your car a lot. Its probably one of the best handling street tires, its the same kind that comes on 911's stock.
If you want just a decent daily driver tire, you can go with the bridge stone re760's or the hankook evo 12's.
You can check the tire sub forum to get feedback on different brands
Keep in mind the tire ratings only show thread wear and what speed there rated up too.
They have no real bearing on handling characteristics and the limits of the tire. You'd have to get personal or second hand feedback for that.

Tires are like any other product in the world. There are different specifications and quality.
If you just need a decent econo tire for the street, the Kumho are not bad. I would recommend something like the Hankook V12 though. Slightly more but Ive ran both and these are quieter and better traction.
The Michelin are way more performance oriented and no, you wont get double the mileage... You will likely get less than what the Kumho gets! However, you sacrifice treadwear for performance, you need sticky, soft tires to grip on the track. And for that, I would personally recommend RE-11; as I have never had the chance to run Pilot Sports.

I got Goodyear Eagle GTs on my DD G35. Got em at Discount Tire, haven't had a problem with them for the past 4 yrs.. First two and half yrs didn't do much driving, but the last yr and a half drove about 30 miles a day every day between my two jobs n home. Gonna need new tires later this yr or beginning of next yr.
