HKS Hi-power Exhaust daily driver?

Hello all,

Wanted to get some opinions regarding the HKS hp exhaust on a daily driver with oem cats. No doubt the exhaust sounds exotic at WOT, but how is it like in daily drive / low throttle (i.e. below 3k rpm).

Not sure if I am turning old, but I am looking for a classy exhaust at normal drive / low rpm that can roar at high rpm. The last thing I want is to enter / exit my company lot gathering too much attention / not being able to carry a conversation while taking my team out for lunch...

I daily about 50-60 freeway miles with traffic a day.

I had the Exoticspeed R1 - great exhaust, but drones right at 75mph..
Then I went with the Nismo S Tune, loved it but sold it.... (Wanted to buy a Cayman at the time but now decide to save up more for a 911...) bad decision...

Please let me know what your thoughts are!

I'd say if you loved the Nismo get another one. The HKS is substantially louder than the Nismo.

If you plan on keeping stock cats with the HKS it will sound very muffled and quiet.

You'll be fine with the HKS on your DD! At freeway speeds even with my HFCs I don't hear the exhaust unless I get on it. I would be cautious if you get the HKS making sure it doesn't have the restriction in the crossover like the rest of us had. SEARCH there was a lot posted about HKS and there **** poor quality control and inability to resolve this issue other than tell us to send the system back to them....

It's really not that hard if you work in a Fortune 500 company AND have a brain...
I know many G drivers with those qualities...

Thanks Gary, I noticed you went thru a few exhaust setups, mind offering your thoughts and comparisons?

This is a perfect example why you should hear exhaust systems in person before jumping on a new improved system....
OE exhaust system needed improvement....something!
Sponsored a Magnflow experimental system made for Stillen which was there dual cat-back system with the nice crossover....not satisfied. (mistake!)
Installed a Borla true-dual system....terrible sound and worse quality.
Sponsored a Magnflow y-back system and I included a Fjui y-pipe. Felt loss in power and sound wasn't different than OE.
Installed an HKS cat-back system, knowing their quality from the system I had on my previous TT Z. Loved the system but it had a strange noise at higher RPMs only to discover HKS had a quality control problem where the crossover was partially blocking the left bank/side. Paid another $300= to buy and install Magnflows x-pipe which eliminated the issue. Moving along thru BERK'S HFCs which failed then ART Pipes where I hated the stinky exhaust to my current Fast Intentions HFCs which I love with my HKS improved exhaust. Look at all the $$ I could have saved if I'd just been satisfied with my second Magnflow/Stillen system....

I don't remember my HKS being that loud from inside the car, I doubt it will be a problem. After headers and HFC's though.....

HKS is a great option, and it's have, but motordyne shockwave V2 is the nicest sounding exhasut that Ive ever heard in a VQ.
