ls1 guy switching to a g35....perf mods help

Hi guys, really dont want to be here cuz it means my 400rwhp 95z28 is going bye bye.

buying a house and cant have days where i spend 800 bux and work on it for 11 hrs.

I am getting a 03-05 g, coupe, with an auto...(i know, i know, but it will be my DD)

I know about the oil consumption, brakes, cd player, window motor, valve cover, etc etc issues. All goes for lt1/ls1 f bodies, just a bit different issues.

Anyways ive searched and searched, cant find anything on what NA mods are really worth your time....?? i mean if you are buying a vette of trans am, lmk, il tell you exactly whats worht your time and whats a waste.

Thats what im looking for here.... example... Is a cold air intake worth the 2-300 bux...?? some say no, others yes. I most engines they are worth it, but not all. anyone confirm this....??

from what ive seen biggest/best gains come from:

5/15 or 1/2 spacer
grounding wires/kits
tune/flash (whatever you wana call it)
test pipe/delete cats
cat back exhaust.

some have said headers are not worth it...?? ( in ls1 land they are good for 20rwhp)

I would think intake, full exhaust (header, x pipe/y pipe & cat back) + tune should take my stk 235rwhp/225rwtq to 260/260-ish....???

any help here??

really want the car to run low 13'/hi 12's..... (wow thats slow now that i think about it)

The Gs came out of the factory pretty well tuned so most mods besides FI are not going to make too much of a diff.
Forget about headers, not worth the time and money for what u get.
CAI isn't much better IMO either, z-tubes do just as well and are much cheaper to get used.
For an auto a ztube, rev-up air box, 1/2" spacer, CB exhaust, HFC or TPs and a tune are your best bet.
Not sure about the grounding kit, maybe some of the other guys can chime in.

for intake grab a Z-tube and a revup airbox, picked it up for under $200. What you've seen is pretty much the way to go. As far as test pipe/cats, IMO high flow cats over test pipes.

good luck and welcome

for get the cai, junk. even tho its not a vette your still gonna have to pay to play with the g, good parts are not cheap. ztube 5/16 spacer art pipes and a motordyne tdx exhuast would yeild the most power top it off with an osiris tune and you should deff hit your target hp. there are other weight reduction mods such as the light weight pullys and a one piece aluminum drive shaft, lots of guys were braking 300 whp with the 06 07 6mt g35c.

good advice here...you also don't have to worry about the oil consumption with an automatic

I would also budget for a transgo immediately. Probably the best mod I've done that tied all the others together. (pre FI)

I won't talk about those mods already mentioned as much as to say I agree with the info above.

Your going from a 6L to a 3.5L so the hp returns on bolt on are a lot less. Save and drop in a ls1 for turbo. All the other mods well seem insignificant compared to what you had.

Or spend some money on suspension mods, you'll notice the handling is a lot better compared to any of the live axel stuff.

my car is a 5.8 really, a 357. and it handles dam good, koni shocks, custom springs, 35mm hollow front sway, 325's out back.....

but yeah this car is much different. if i wanted big power id drop a 5.3 LS into something. you can buy a junkyard 5.3 for 500 bux, a single t66 and 600rw no sweat.....on the stock engine...lol

im not trying to make this thing fast, just enough to hang with other cars... and now days hi 12's aint ****. the new 5.0 stangs turn 12.50's @ 111. so if i can get it going 12.80's @ 105 il be happy

does any company make an aftermarket stall or torque converter for the a5? i plan on shift kit, maybe gear swap + LSD but with how much all it costs doesnt look like it. Im not sure i can even bring myself to put exhaust on a v6...??

You won't get into 12's with a bolt ons with this car unless your going to use nitrous.

You'll need FI via turbo or supercharger or rebuild the motor to high compression NA to hit 12's.

I personally like the stock exhaust sound. But the high flow cats will net you the most hp in terms of the exhaust system. The cat back gives you maginal hp returns in terms of cost.

There's nothing wrong with an exhaust on a 6 banger, the VQ maintains a higher pitched note so as long as you don't try and make it sound like a V8 you'll be good. Like already mentioned though, FI is the only way to go if you want good gains.

You've already got the engine laying around.....http://www.sikky.com/view_item.php?id=27&catid=12

Or just feed it a 75-100 shot nitrous and you'll be good to go.
