AFTERSALE NAVI SYSTEM

I've had my coupe for about 5 months allready and i'm really really regretting not getting it with the navi. I've been wanting to install an aftermarket navi system but really don't want any problems in the future. Do any of you guys know if you can throw in the factory navi system? Will infiniti do the install? Do they even sell it? I heard that if you decide to get the navi from infiniti and you didn't purchase it as an option it will go for $10,000 which i think is ridiculous. Is this true?

I've heard $6,000, which seems more reasonable. There's a lot more work than you'd think in retrofitting the nav system into the car. Your best bet would be to look at some of the aftermarket nav systems. Several people have shoehorned them into that top center cubby hole, and they look pretty good.

Or you could just sell your G, order a new one w/nav and take a 3-5 thousand dollar hit.

Aftermarket navs cost about 2500 to 3500 including installation depending whether you get Alpine or Pioneer. But the Pioneer has the touchscreen however they don't have a screen that fits inside the upper storage compartment, Alpine does but no touchscreen.

hey otagkg35,
i'm in the same position as you. here's what i've thought of doing. getting the factory pop-up monitor/screen that fits perfectly and hooking it up to an aftermarket dvd/navi system or even a mini pc. i think that would cost a lot less around 1000-1500 for the system without the screen.
Now if i could only get a qoute for the monitor/screen.

Re: AFTERSALE NAVI SYSTEM

The only issue with that is that the aftermarket Nav units have a specific connector for their nav screens and I woulld think the OE nav screen has the same so you would probably need some type of adapter for the screen to be able to display the picture. Not a bad idea but there may be some obstacles.

ya i hear ya, and this way u can also watch dvd's and even hook it upto the stereo to play mp3's. There is also a place where they can convert TFT screens into touchscreens. I guess you can do about anything u want these days bit its just a matter of $$$. still waiting for price on the factory monitor/screen.

Re: AFTERSALE NAVI SYSTEM

Not trying to be a smarta$#, but the Pioneer does not have a touchscreen. The Kenwood KNA-DV2100 is a touchscreen. The nav unit runs around $1900 and the touchscreens go from about $850 for a basic 8" touchscreen monitor to about $2300 for a motorized 6.5" display with am/fm/tv/dvd. I had that one installed in the cubby where the oem navi goes and it looks great.

Re: AFTERSALE NAVI SYSTEM

I dont think they would sell the factory nav's LCD/housing seperately. But if so, well then everyone's screen problems have been solved.

Anyone work at am infiniti dealorship?

What if the screen is damaged in accident or scratched severely, or the Crystals prematurely die; there has to be away for the service/part depeartment guys to replace this for you under warranty. Which would lead me to believe that getting the screen is a possibility. Same goes for the housing.

Re: AFTERSALE NAVI SYSTEM

Sorry, but I can't get pics to post for some reason. Go to page 3 in the Tecnical forum and scroll down to the CUSTOM INSTALL thread. You can see all my pics there.
