Me and a WRX get it on!
Me and a WRX get it on!
Had a little fun in the G35 yesterday. I was picking it up from the dealer after work (getting very 1st oil change) and returning home. I turned left out of the dealer lot and got into the far right lane because I needed to turn right onto the highway. In my driver’s side mirror I notice the “unique” headlights of a new WRX. He eases into a spot in traffic 2–3 cars behind me. I think nothing of it when I turn right onto the on-ramp but guess what, the 2 cars behind me went straight and he turned right behind me. The on-ramp is about a 1/8 mile long downhill run.
I had the windows down a bit to cool the interior after it sat in the hot sun and could easily hear his higher revs and turbo whine mean lower gears and a heavy right foot. It was on! I turned off the a/c and radio and began checking for traffic over my left shoulder. I rode out 2nd as much as I could and saw that evening rush hour traffic had thinned out enough to go for it.
I only have 3K miles on the clock and have never raced this car. That was about to change. I glanced back and saw he was glued to my bumper. I think, “Well let’s see what 280hp can do vs. the blown Subie?” I punch it and take 2nd to 6K rpm and nail the 2-3 shift. The WRX is pinned to my bumper. I stay in the right lane and the WRX goes for the slingshot into the left. It looks like he gains a few strides. The 3-4 shift comes very quickly as the speedo registers triple digits and I look over into my blind spot and see the WRX about a car length behind. Time for the Brembos to join in the action as I decelerate from 120mph back to the 65mph speed limit.
He pulls up next to me and gives me a big smile and thumbs up, then takes off.
I concluded several things: I’m sure he was stock; he ran out of steam at ~100 when the G kept pulling and had this been a top end run, I would have pulled even further from him; he never really gained any ground on me and I never pulled away from him; it was lots of fun; I’m glad no police were around, and I love my car! Re: Me and a WRX get it on!
i am almost betting he has a little somthing done, i have a mark 8 and i always beat WRX's on roll's quite easily and i know for a fact that the 6MT coupe is faster than my mark by a few tenths in the 1/4.
I have raced many stock WRX's at the track and havnt lost yet. The modded ones are another story...

Re: Me and a WRX get it on!
I wanted to edit my write-up to say I wasn't sure if he was stock but the site kept giving me all kinds of errors telling me I wasn't logged in...when I was. Oh well...maybe he was modded. Either way it was fun!
Re: Me and a WRX get it on!
yea, nobody with a turbo who street races leaves it stock. bet he'd upped the boost at the very least.

Re: Me and a WRX get it on!
Well we might as well enjoy taking on the WRX while we can cause the STI is going to be a whole other story. At least we'll still have them in Looks anyway. Those things are gonna be monsters though and probably cost as much as some G coupes! Sweet story, it's not every day you break in your new sports car and have a good race waiting for you the minute your done.
Re: Me and a WRX get it on!
the sti is gonna lay the smack down.. and the evo too.. bastards..

The STI - older brother who takes steroids, is a black belt in 5 different martial arts, and carries a LARGE stick..
But heck, those Twin Turbo mods for the G35 should be out around then too...
Could make it interesting...

Re: Me and a WRX get it on!
Yeah, but then boost controllers and such will appear for the STi. You mod your car, they mod there car... it's just another version of Keeping-Up-With-The-Joneses.
