Battery Heads Up!!
Battery Heads Up!!
I've been noticing a few posts on battery life, car not starting ( wether it was battery issue or not ) and just wanted to mention to everyone to check and make sure your battery has water in it. I just filled up mine today they were completely down.
I did find it odd that Infiniti didn't give us maintenence free batteries like almost every other car I've owned.

It's true the factory batteries are not top of the line, but regular maintenance is important no matter what battery you have. The OEM batts will last a few years with a little care (unless you get a bad one like some have).
Unscrew the caps and look inside for the fluid level. BTW, the water you add quickly turns to sulphuric acid, so be careful.
In each filler hole is a level indicator to fill up to.
Use distilled water so as not to add any minerals to the cells. They don't like minerals.
In hotter climates, evapouration can be an issue, so frequent checks and top-ups are necessary.
Keeping the top of the battery clean is important too to prevent charge leakage across the terminals, and to maintain a good clamp contact at the terminals.

What has been considered a "maintenence free" battery for a long time was simply the removal of the screw caps from the top of the battery, replacing them with a pry off or other device to get to the filler holes. Is there really a auto battery that you CAN'T put water into?

Yes, you will never have to put water into an Optima battery. you can even mount them up side down.

Apparantly there is no liquid in the Optimas and, as you said, can be mounted any way you choose, even upside down.
I believe the Optima is slightly taller than our OEM batteries tho. maybe 1/2".
Anyone had clearance issues ?
