Does anyone want to trade in their 6MT for a 5AT?
Im looking forward to trade in my 5AT for a 6MT. Just wondering if any 6MT driver in Southern California wants to get rid of their 6MT for a 5AT so i'll probably get some easier deal, thanks.
If you drive in an urban area with a lot of bumper to bumper traffic manual shifting gets old quickly. On my RX-7 I shift 1st to 2nd and neutral to 2nd to keep momentum and avoid 1st again.

Im in the market for a G and Im not even considering the 6MTs
405 traffic is a nightmare!
It's that same old debate, I guess. I could not even consider a performance car without a manual transmission. I'd be missing too much of the experience and the direct connection the vehicle. And yes, it's like marrying a supermodel but then sleeping in separate beds. My puny little brain just doesn't get it.
Well, I have a 6mt and I love enjoying it. Let it be heavy traffic doing the same tedious thing, or open roads where I can control my shift points. Every moment is enjoyable. Plus, I live in NYC. Traffic is pretty bad everyday.
my friends have been telling me i was a woman for getting a 5AT, since i can barely drive stick and its a "sports car".
and you know what, after seeing the horrible traffic after the crazy storm on the 405 and 10, i feel very happy with my auto.

As said up above, a manual transmission is the only way to go when it's a performance car (or at least if you're going to drive it like one).
Well my opinion is this. I HAVE owned a stick shift BMW before this car. I live in Washington, D.C. - Also known as the 2nd worst traffic in the country behind LA. I drive 35 miles each way and about 30 of that is in traffic.
I literally would come home with a stiff leg while driving the BMW. As much as I love stick and driving it, I just had to get an automatic. Then it came down to getting something powerful and thats how I ended up with the G.
Also understand I am 25. I too would have frowned on the argument that I didnt get a stick because of the traffic. Well after around 70 miles of it everyday I really just had no choice.

I hear you Prat, the BMW is especially tough as the clutch is stiffer than the G. I thought my 323 was stiff, then I got my M and man, it can be a work out in a lot of traffic. The G is definitely easier, although it has less feel.
I think as things like SMG and CVT are perfected, you are going to be hard pressed to find manuals in the future. Yes, they are more fun, but your auto driver's will flock to them because of the performance and your "casual" manual driver will do the same. The better semi-manual transmissions already shift faster than even F1 drivers and as the weight comes down, they'll be faster than MTs, even in the hands of experienced drivers. Of course, there is also the economic factor, but that is better left for another thread

The grass is always greener on the other side.
Hell I am only 23 and I have second guessed chosing a 6mt over a 5at hundreds of times, as well as dropping another 2g's on the NAV! hahahah

.As much as I enjoy manual, I definitely see F1-gearboxed cars in my future.

6mt kicks ***.
