VTR- DynoJet

went to vinny ten racing this morning and had a great experience. just got a dyo pull and vinny gave me honest adivice on whether i should tune my car or not and he said it is unnecessary due to the pulls i made on basic bolt ons. I currently have throttle body spacer z tube, k&n drop in, mrev 2, motordyne spacer, FI cat back and FI high flow cat. made pulls of 255 to 260 hp which he said is pretty good and wouldnt be worth the 600 dollars to tune it. any opinions?

Post up the dyno sheet so we can check the A/F ratio. I would almost guarantee that its running lean..

I'd venture to bet the reason he said you don't need a tune is that Uprev won't let him become a dealer... so he's pretty much SOL when it comes to tuning our cars NA.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
He's an idiot, the tune will pull all of your mods together, gain more HP, remove the speed limiter, give you adjustable maps to flip between, put your A/F where it should be, etc., etc.

hmm, well he told me that he doesnt have uprev and uprev will only give me around 5 hp and to save the money. he seemed pretty honest to me my dyno sheet he gave me doesnt show the A/F ratios.

Epic fail. The tune is worth it just to remove the electronic throttle restriction and smooth out the fuel delivery if nothing else, but I've never seen a g35 with full boltons that didn't need one

vinny is a stand up guy and wouldnt steer you wrong..im sure he is not saying you wouldnt gain anything from it because im sure you would but what he is saying is that 6-700 bucks isnt worth 5hp or so and what you would get out of it..i agree with him on this...

yes vinny doesnt have uprev and if you wanna spend the bucks to have it tuned using uprev call performance motorsports since they do and will gladly take your money..it comes down to if its worth it to you to gain a few ponies and spend the bucks to do so.

imo all the n/a mods are just a waste of time..sure the tune would tie what you have together but i just couldnt justify doing all that n/a and tuning to still be where it will be.. only way to get good power for your money is to boost the car..

You never gain tons of "peak" hp with a tune, but you correct the A/F ratio and gain a lot in the mid range, but gains aside its worth it for longevity of your engine. I can't tell you how many cars I've seen with all kinds of mods that are running like dick, 15+ AFR at WOT... definitely not good for your engine. An uprev tune is invaluable for making sure its running properly after all the mods... not just to milk the last few ponies out of it.

And I was referring to the electronic throttle restriction, not the speed limiter. Throttle never opens 100% from the factory, just syncing this to get the most flow possible for any given speed/rpm with the "uprev tuned throttle" in the electronic throttle control settings is worth a big kick to the butt dyno.

And of course Vinny isn't going to recommend uprev... they posted on their Facebook a while back that they would never do business with him and that he would never be allowed to do the buy in...

OP If you got a dyno with no A/F readings then there is no way to know that it is or isn't running right and he's just talking out his #&@
