Question Vibration

I have an 05 MT g35 coupe-

I have owned this car for almost three years now with no issue. Yesterday I got in the car for my daily commute to work and noticed for the first time that when I drive over 65 mph the steering wheel starts to shake and the whole car vibrates a good bit. I figure that this is probably an alignment issue however I am just confused as to how this would randomly begin and how it could have been knocked out of alignment sitting in my driveway. I have not hit a curb, or anything for that matter and on my previous drive it was fine. Has anyone experienced this and found it to be something other than needing at alignment?

Thanks!

From others threads that I have read it can be a variety of things. It can be one of your motor mounts going bad, a compression rod, a bearing or maybe u just need to balance ur wheels again. Best thing u can do is take it to a specialist and see if they can diagnose your issue.

There is an epoxy that they use on the wheel weights to hold them on to the wheel. That epoxy can get brittle and weak with age and you could lose a wheel weight, which will cause the vibration that you speak of.

Also, make sure that you have uniform tire pressure on all of your wheels and there are no major gobs of stuff stuck to the inside edge of your tire or rim. If you ran over a huge chunk of really sticky goo, it could get stuck on your wheel and throw it out of balance.

I would see if your wheels/tires need to be balanced again, or if one or more of your wheels are bent. Then if you still get vibrations you could go from there.

i get this same vibration above 65mph, i don't feel like it has anything to do with the engine because i can take it out of gear and let the motor idle while im around 70mph and it will still be shaking... i've had two sets of rims and they were both balanced and it still shaked, so i don't know

I think that almost every car I have had (after I put rims and tires on it) has had a goofy vibration at or around 70 mph. I am guessing I havent had it as bad as yours but it sounds like partyman66 has a good idea of the weight just falling off. I also had an ex who's tie rod bent out of no where and it gave her a good vibration. Post what you find out and drive careful until you figure it out.

+1 for a weight on your tire falling off. Just had the same thing happen last week.

What he said, if the steering wheel is shaking/vibrating, most likely an issue with one or both front tires. Have a reputable shop check wheel balance first (if you go to Discount Tire, get the 'Road Force Balancing') then if the issue is still there, get an alignment. The weights can fall off at anytime and can make a day and night difference while driving.

Thanks for all of the input it is very helpful. I have never had a weight fall off, nor was I aware what happens to the car when they do. After doing a little more research this sounds like it could be my problem so I am taking the car up to discount after work. I will let you guys know how it goes

i took my car in and they blamed it on camber wear... they said they wouldn't balance the tire due to how bald the inside of my tire was.. ****ers!

No surprise, what you needed was a camber kit, two new tires and an alignment. They were just trying to save you wasting your $$....Gary

go to a smaller shop, if they give you same ****, tell them you just want it balanced to see if that eliminates the vibration before you get new tires for it.
Small shop should be able to do it without issues.
If vibration stays, you either have a bent rim (which you will be able to diagnose while getting it balanced) or a bad (or going bad) bushings in a lover control arm.
