Overheating...thinking its an air bubble

What's up guys....my worst fear on my car, the temp gauge rising! Its really annoying.

Sitting at a traffic light and temp gauge started going up (fairly quick), changed the t-stat, still was over heating, saw that the radiator was leaking so I changed that as well, put in new coolant...and for some reason it's still overheating....I'm thinking it's an air bubble in the system.

It's not the headgasket! I'm NOT losing any coolant! and nothing else is leaking (ie. hoses, waterpump etc)

I've checked the top hose of the radiator when the car is at normal temp and it's hot, checked the bottom hose and it's still cold, ten mins later bottom hose is hot, 5 mins more it's cold again...the fans are working properly so no problem there. Also the heater is not working even when the temp is highest (90 degrees)

I know our cars have a special way to burp the system...anyone here know the best way to burp it? Any info would be good. Thanks!! Hopefully I can figure this crap out!

There's two possibilities since you've already changed the radiator and thermostat, one being an air bubble (valve on the front down low) and have you checked to see if your fans are coming on? Electric fans are famous for taking a **** and most obvious when sitting in traffic due to the lack of airflow....Gary

Yup I've checked the fans, they are coming on and off at the perfect timing.....which valve are you talking about though?

Turn the car on and let it run for a couple of minutes, then open the bleeder screw (near the firewall/battery well) SLOWLY but NOT ALL THE WAY OUT. You should see some coolant spilling out the bleeder screw. Close the bleeder screw and keep an eye on temp needle. If it climbs, repeat. Make sure you have enough fluid in reservior

If you still have HOT with upper hose and COLD with lower, I would say T-stat...I understand that you already changed it, but perhaps the "new" one is bad.

**PROBLEM SOLVED!! Finally figured it out! As someone already said...it turns out the new t-stat was also bad! Stupid cheap autozone crap...ended up driving all the way to the dealership and got the oem one now it runs without overheating even in this terribly hot weather

Look at all you learned thru this nightmare. You didn't mention you went to an auto parts store for the thermostat. You should always test em on the stove in a pan of hot water making sure they open 100%....Gary
