1st Gear Problems

hello. i have a 2k4 6spd coupe and i have issues with my first gear sometimes. it seems like i have to almost force it to get it into gear when im driving around which is really annoying. as far as i know, i have never grinded 1st gear so i don't know what's going on.

i have accidently grinded 3rd and 5th gears a few times, but it wasn't a bad grind just a quick noise because i didnt push the clutch in far enough.

anyways, what do you guys think i should do? i did call infiinit this afternoon and left a message in the service department, guess they were closed for mlk jr day? not sure.

i have less than 4000 miles on this car, suggestions?

humm i think i have problems even at stand still sometimes. i usually never downshift into 1st but if i do have to during traffic or something i have to force it a little bit. its not smooth like the rest of the gears...

1st gear is almost always used when starting to move from a complete stop. If you are moving use 2ng gear instead. In heavy traffic with a manual I always try to keep the car moving to avoid 1st gear, so I go to neutral and 2nd to keep the car in motion.

Get your tranny and diff oil replaced and it will be perfect. I had the same problem and once they replaced this its now perfect. The dealership will tell you that it needs changing at 30k miles but alot of members are doing it earlier and I was skeptical too. I have about 20k on mine and now it shifts ever so smoothly.

yes, and double clutch into 1st. It'll help the syncro's work a little more
efficiently. It is harder to get into gear on cold days though as the oil
is stubborn thick until warmed up.

I also agree that if you're rolling even a little bit, try to use 2nd (slip
clutch a little bit so the motor doesn't bog) instead of going into 1st.

I changed the diff fluid at 2400 miles to get the metal shavings out, and there were quite a bit of shavings at such a low mileage.
