03 G35 Sedan - Burning Oil

Hello all!

I'm hoping you experts can help me out a bit. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined, my brother in-law is a mechanic, and my best friend has a good grasp of vehicles. I'm sad to report that my G35 has started to betray me quite quickly. I'm located in Canada, so the values I report will be SI.

In the past, my friend and I have torn apart my '96 Audi A4 and rebuit the engine from the ground up. It was definitely a good learning experience. One that I had hoped not to repeat.

On to the issues: burning oil and climate control/ac issues.

Burning Oil

The car has started to delcine and is burning oil trying to keep BP in business. At the current rate it is burning approxiamtely 1L every 500km (all highway). I don't rev the car past 5K. I've noticed some blue smoke when starting the car from time to time, but that seems to have gone away.

When I do accelerate quickly to get on the freeway, I notice a little black smoke trail behind me. Not happy!!

I'm wondering if I should start with a compression test and see where that leads? I've got mixed reviews from friend and family on whether that will lead to any possible fixes. I'm assuming no mater what, I'm going to have to pull the engine out and get into the pistons.

Does anyone have printouts or instructions for removing the engine from the tranny? I won't be able to drop it out the bottom, so it is going to be the hard way.

Has anyone done this rebuild before? Any suggestions on potential parts that I'm going to need? If there is scoring on the inside I know I'm SOL and have to buy a new engine.. but I don't have the finances to do that right now.

A/C - Radio

I have found a guide that shows me how to do the DD installation on the forum. I like the look and feel of the stock system and would like to keep it that way.

The radio and climate control have worked very well for over a few years now. Suddenly it went out and would come back sometimes from restarting the car. Then that stopped working and it would come back when it felt like it... now it is dead.. and I have radio silence and temperature of 24C

Does anyone know what the root cause of this problem is besides just saying it is the shared circuit board. I did find this post "https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sedan-v35-2003-06/391401-climate-control-radio-easy-fix-check-out.html"
Has anyone had success with this fix?

The fix for the AC/Radio worked quite well. I'm happy with the guide.

Can anyone make some suggestions for the burning oil problem. I'm starting to think I need to rebuild the pistons. Any suggestions?

Blue smoke usually indicates the pistons and rings. I think a leakdown and compression test would be helpful. Curious myself, as I have an 03 Z which began burning oil also. I have the unfortunate task or also trying to sell mine. Im not sure how I can sell it now..
