TRUNK SWAP help please...
Hi guys,
Is there a DIY out there for a trunk swap? I am going to give out my spoiler-less trunk for a trunk w/ oem-spoiler...
Is it as simple as undoing a few screws? how does the BRAKE LIGHT from the spoiler hook up? Is there a plug waiting for it in my trunk?
My friend actually will know how to do all of this, but I am just curious in case he won't be able to do it that day...
Thanks

I installed the OEM spoiler a few months ago myself.
The install was easy, just nerve racking when drilling the holes in your car!
From what I recall, the brake light plugs are underneath the trunk lining. It's plug and play. disconnect the 3rd brake light and plug the spoiler right in.
The only thing now is that I don't know how to cover up the hole from the interior 3rd brake light? So I just left it in.
Also, don't forget to change the trunk shocks since the spoiler will add weight. A trick to installing the shock is to remove the little stoppers located on the hinges. This allows the trunk to open wider and installing the shocks a piece of cake. This will not be an issue for you since you are replacing the who trunk lid.
Good luck.

Thanks Redline! Hmm... I remember Kyosho has both his brake light pod (inside the car) and his spoiler light working... I wonder how he went about doing that... thoughts?
Also... how is the whole removal of the lid? Pretty basic?
Thanks

He may have spliced the wires.... From what I recall, there was only one plug option. I think there's only two wires connected to the plug (not sure tho).
I did not replace the intire trunk lid, just installed the spoiler. I wouldn't think it was be too difficult with the right tools. I did not pay close attention to the hinges so I'm not sure how difficult they would be to remove. If I had to do over, I would probably just replace the trunk lid....that would have less room for errors.
Enjoy!

I just noticed that the bolts that need to be undone seem to have a sticky foam connected to them... is this foam a permanent attachment? It's not glued or welding in or anything is it?! o_O

Dennis - not sure about the foam. I would think the foam is some type of bolt sealer. Not sure. If you have time, take it to a shop (or call one) and ask them about it. I'm sure they are use to dealing with this foam sealing thing.
TC - I recall 10 total holes to drill for the OEM spoiler. If you look at the spoiler...there is two on the outer edges, the rest are along the backside.
Hope this helps.
