Car dies on neutral when exiting highways

Hello all,

I am new to this site and excited to see what everyone has to offer!

Anyways, I have encountered a problem with G35 6MT, last week the car died on me while rolling on neutral and exiting the highway. I guessed it could have been the Camshaft and crankshaft sensors since it is a common thing with Nissans. So I changed them all with OEM parts that cost me a total of $320 from the dealership. Well this wasn't the problem, yesterday afternoon as I was exiting the highway and let my car roll on neutral it died, today the same thing happened on my way to work. It only happens when I'm on neutral and the car is rolling. I don't want to take it the stealership because they might just get the same diagnosis codes that I got.

I got the Air fuel sensor and O2 sensor, however I have been driving with this 2 sensors bad for almost a year. I do not think I need to change them because I'm getting a straight pipe next month.

Could it be the MAF sensor? I do not have a CAI, just a regular intake cone from K&N.

Please help.
Thanks,

Rome

From: Southeastern Mass.
Try cleaning your MAF sensor with some CRC Mass Airflow Sensor cleaner or equivalent product from another vendor. Make sure that whatever you use to clean it is meant for cleaning mass airlfow sensors, because they are very sensitive and easy to damage.

Also.... it's very bad driving practice to shift into neutral when the car is moving at high speeds such as when getting off the highway. If your car stalls, as yours did, you will eventually lose your power steering assist and brake assist.... this is why it's recommended to keep the car in gear as you're coasting down from speed rather than throwing it in neutral. You'll actually get better gas millage too, because the car completely cuts all fuel delivery in this situation (as long as you're in gear with your foot completely off the gas while decelerating), whereas it would still use fuel to maintain idle RPM's on the other hand when you put it in neutral and coast to a stop.

Partyman beat me to it, but you really should not be in neutral while traveling at that rate of speed. Some might even argue that at no point while the engine is running should you be in neutral.

Unfortunately, I have nothing of value to add as far as why your car is shutting down while in neutral.

I am like 80% sure it is your MAF.
I had the same issue where the engine would shut off if the car was idle, and then it completely died, couldnt event start the engine.

If I were you I would take it to the dealership asap, as i had to get my car towed, since it couldnt start.

i paid like $250-300 for it if I remember correctly

I just cleaned the MAF sensor, throttle body, and put a new intake cone this morning. I guess my MAF sensor was just dirty, the cars runs great now. Thanks all.
