Shocks/Strus Recommendations for 05 g35 coupe with Sport Suspension

Hello All,

I have 2005 G35 Sport Suspension Coupe, 106K Miles on it. I felt like no suspension at all on my coupe as its giving lot of bump sound for even moderate rough road. Recently I have notice that My front tires thread tearing out only inner side of both wheels. Tires looks pretty good from outside. and little teardown from back tires too. I was told by mechanic that I need to change all of 4 struts immediately.

So need some recommendations. I don't need too many adjustments or lower down or up ... in fact no Idea about them. my budget is about $1000.

appreciate you guys help ...thanks...

Again its for 2005 G35 Coupe Sport Suspension.

No, I did not lowered , As it is as factory. I changed 4 tires back in November'11 and tire shop guy might have done alignment, not sure about it... I figured out of inner side thread tearingout in Feb'12 ..so within 4 months ..front tires completely gone... again I changed from two tires in February ..after that I didn't drive much... Firestone guy said that I need to change struts while changing tires...

Your best option would be Tokico HPs.
They are comparable to oem sport suspension and won't break the bank.

Yeah...I thought the same, but whenever I check all says exclude sports suspension ...

Only KYB parts says with sports suspension... how to pick Tokico HPs that 100% fits sports suspension

You don't need new struts...sounds like you have too much negative camber.

Check your alignment...the early model g35 had a lot of negative camber to out handle the 3 series...later models came with less negative camber due to tire wear complaints

Or you can get a Camber kit to add positive camber...if you want tire longevity go with 0 to -1 camber. Also get a new mechanic, replacing struts due to tire wear is a horrible suggestion

My OEM Sport suspension (OEM sport springs / suspension) were done at 68k miles, it was breaking my back on the freeway...
I got Tokico HP as replacement. Tokico says that it doesn't fit sport models but it does.

They ride stiffer than oem sport suspension but is probably the best ride you can get unless you are willing to pay the OEM price (which is about double btw). Can't complain, it handles just fine.

If your struts were blown it would definitely be noticeable and the car would handle terribly. It is unlikely that all four are bad. I would start with an alignment then go from there.

I bought the car when it has 85K on it, now its on 106K ...I don't really find difference since then as I do not know how it was before. But I can definitely feel the hard bumps even on moderate road..

Check your alignment. And at your budget, you've got a lot of different solutions, although it doesn't sound as though your struts are bad. You bottom out when your struts are bad and the car will sag (appear lowered). You'll ALSO hear knocking.

Not to sway from where you are, but you could actually upgrade your suspension to an aftermarket system...either spring and oem replacement struts (such as kyb or tokico) or a coilover system. Now, 1000 isn't going to garner top of the line, but it will get you a nice set and even if you never plan on lowering the car, it'll give you a solid platform. I know BCR's can be had for that and should any of their struts go, it's rebuildable and cheap to do so.

Just an option.

EDIT: What ^^^^^ said too

That may be a sign of them starting to go or possibly bad bushings. When I had 2 struts blow out on the same side, it was a little difficult to control the car at highway speeds and would start swaying every time I deviated from a straight line. At lower speeds during normal driving the suspension on whichever side was bad would bottom out during a turn, tire hitting the fender liner and the VDC would activate every time that happened.

Those struts were blown

Sorry for the thread jack but since we are on the topic of suspension. For about a month now ive noticed when I hit bumps in the road, I can hear the back of the car make a sharp like hiss sound. I bought the car in september and have now just noticed this sound like i said about a month ago. Its an 06 coupe with 70k miles, havent changed the tires either since they were brand new...

There are a couple easy ways to check for blown struts.

1) Push down on the car hard. If it bounces around or the springs compress way too easily, it's likely the struts are blown.
2) When driving over rough roads, it'll feel like the wheels are leaving the pavement and crashing back down into the road. Likely struts are blown.
3) What herrshaft said, particularly if both on a side are blown.

Some good suggestions in this thread about struts. If mine ever go in this car, i'm likely going to keep the OEM springs and just get Tokico's or buy some used OEM's. The stock setup is fairly good IMHO and low enough for me.

only time it feels like the tires are leaving the road are when going into a slight turn and the tires will go over that gap sort of thing going across the road. Other then that thats the only thing...

I never feel like car leaving the pavement or some.... but even on average road ..car making lot of noise... there no cushion feel at all.... If I drive on the same road in my friend's car... I can feel the difference ...
