My G has been keyed

Hey guys,

I've never introduced myself on the forums and thought this would be a good time so my name is George and I'm from Bergen County New Jersey. I purchased my 2004 OB G35 coupe with 54,000 miles about a year and a half ago and I have been babying it as much as I can. I went out to my car yesterday, that was parked in a university lot, and saw that my car had been keyed pretty bad. Obviously some worthless person ruined my day and my car. They drew about on the top of my trunk and spoiler, did the same on the left quarter panel, and even ended up carrying it over to my roof. Of course, I'm pissed off and would like some guidance in the situation. How should I go about getting this fixed? Full paint job? Touch up? Should I report this to the police? Thanks in advance for any help, guys.

P.S. I'm going to be adding more pics later today.

I would have called the cops as soon and I saw that on the car, then use the police report to go to your insurance and get it fixed. It looks like they are going to have to paint those panels. If you have to pay for the repair, then you could try touch up paint, but it might not look too good.

file a police report... depending on the size of your deductable I'd file a claim thru the insurance and get it repaired. But know, if you file any kind of report it's likely to appear on a carfax report if you were to ever plan on getting rid of it...

And Welcome, George, terrible to hear about this sort of thing...

Thanks for the help all, I'm going to call the police when I get back from class and try to file it through insurance. Anyone have a clue at how much we might be talking here? I know it's probably hard to give a good estimate but I honestly have no clue how much paint and bodywork costs.

I'm not an expert with things but have had many cars that were damaged...it's not cheap when you factor in painting parts + labor hours.

Once had a Civic where the front bumper cracked... was $900 to fix. (parts, labor, paint)

File a report and try to go through insurance. The labor and whatnot associated with the painting process will vary a bit between shops. It could get expensive but hopefully you can find someone that is very capable of matching the paint and everything.

As a professional detailer I can say touch-up paint would make it looks better but nowhere near perfect. Get it painted through insurance.

I wouldn't take it back to school b/c it might, most likely will get keyed again. To bad, I had a neighbour key my door. Cost $300 deductable to repair it.

This actually happened to me too in my 06 BMW...someone keyed it all around...I called insurance...they required a police report and also a written statement on what happened. They covered the damage since I had full coverage. If you know the body shop guy you might get away without paying your deductible. The insurance cut a check for my paint job for about $4500 and I knew the body shop guy and didn't have to pay a deductible. So I was pretty happy it happened to me lol *knock on wood*

Have you checked to see if there are cameras in your parking area? Yea, make the report and notify your insurance company. Keying someone's car take a certain kind of dark personality that wouldn't care if they got caught or not....they just don't care about anything!

This is why I didnt take my car to college. But in high school some jack*** put a quarter size hole on my quarter panel. It was the second day I owned the car too. Sucks to hear this though. Hopefully all goes well!
