Window motor reset

I'll be installing my passenger window motor soon and I was wondering about the reset. I looked up the instructions and if I mess up the first time, can I try again? Or is it a hit or miss sort thing?
Thanks for the help.

the window motors from nissan/infiniti go for around $270. However, in the past people have said that you can get a replacement core from autozone for around half that.
