G35 or Evo
#16
The Evo is a road car. The Subaru's are rally cars. While I much prefer Evo's to Subaru's, I'd recommend a Subaru for driving in snow and other adverse weather conditions. The Evo is a FWD biased AWD system. The Subaru is 50/50 until it decides it needs to do something different.
The differences between the Evo and G35 are obvious.
However, what no one has mentioned here is that you WILL need dedicated winter tires (or at the very, very least, all season tires). If you expect to run summer tires on your Evo year round because it has AWD, you're in for a surprise.
I'd much rather drive a RWD car with snow tires than a AWD car with the wrong tires.
If you get a dedicated set of winter tires for your G35, I think you will be just fine. Yes, you will need a second set of rims (just get some cheap ones, they will get chewed up anyway) and you'll need to buy the tires but on the other hand, you'll put less miles on your expensive summer tires, so it will balance out.

I have thought about an STi, Gary. I really do love them and I wanted one before I wanted an Evo, but the Evo seems like a better car to me Not completely sure why. Maybe its because I ALWAYS hear about spun rod bearings with subarus. I'm not saying that cant happen to any car, but it seems like it happens to those boxers engines a lot!
Plus, I can't seem to find a good deal on an STi. They always seem way overpriced. And if I did go down the Subaru path, it would have to be an STi and not just a WRX.
Am I wrong to think that Evos are more reliable than STis? Or is it just a matter of opinion?

However, this debate isn't about whether an STi is better than an Evo. Thats for another thread.
I appreciate everyone's feedback so far. Does anyone have have any experience with winters in Boulder Colorado?
Another option I've been toying with, is getting a beater car. I've been thinking about picking up a cheap civic (approx. $1k) and throwing that thing around in the snow. BUT I don't really want to have two cars and I don't want to have it breaking down on me all the time.

Honestly the AWD will be a huge advantage during the snowy season. If it were up to me I'd probably go with the Evo or a Subaru overall. A beater Civic is another possibility but I wouldn't assume that they're unreliable! As long as they're maintained they'll basically last forever.
In the end it's a car, and its main function is to get you from point A to point B. So if the G won't hold up as well based on the driving you'll be doing I'd probably go for something a bit more practical.
