The factory Bose speakers & amp aren't so bad. It's the head unit that is a piece of ****

I replaced my stereo with a JVC KW-NT3HDT and added a 13.5 shallow sub. **** sound awesome.

I listen to my system all the time and loud so it was worth every penny and headache. I would have saved a lot of money on upgrades/labor if I would have just done it right the first time.

The G35 BOSE system sucks. I can't believe they put their name on it since my Bose home system sounds awesome. I expected more from them.
What would you recommend to get the best sound? I have the 2003 coupe with Bose, but don't want to lose any trunk space, and keep the stock head-unit. I'm guessing replace door speakers, and maybe back speakers? Looking to keep the cost at a few hundred $$$, as the car is almost 10 years old. Thanks in advance.

The stock sound system is ok if you don't turn the volume up to hear your favorite songs. That's how I thought of it and I tried to live with it but ended up getting two Kicker L7 subwoofers in a ZEnclosure box with an 1800 watts amp installed this weekend and it's like night and day! Now I actually want to listen to music in my car! The only problem is that now I really want to change the stock head unit. Might have to finally get a double din system with navigation.

If your budget is a $300 then you might try and find a good used head unit but you will be over budget if you try and buy a JDM Double Din face plate since they run around $300 alone. If it is important to you, just bite the bullet and start with just changing the HU first and go from there. I really, really think you will appreciate the night and day difference.

Thanks again to the Wrathernaut for his guidance.

So would changing the head-unit solve the problem? Or would I still need to replace the door speakers, rear speakers, and potentially change / add an amp to make it sound pretty good. If changing the head-unit only will make a big difference, then I can probably justify that. I can always sell the head-unit, and double din face plate once I sell the car too. Thanks again for the help.

Depends what you wanna achieve really. Changing stock HU will make a HUGE difference. however you can always add a sub for some more bass

Changing the HU alone made a huge difference for me. I wanted to keep my HU so I upgraded my speakers, got an FM modulator and hooked up my ipod (to use ipod EQ)

None of that made that much of a difference. When I put in my HU it was a HUGE difference. I ended up changing the amp and added a 10 inch sub. I mounted the sub in the trunk using a sub box shaped for our trunk corners. It doesn't use up any of your trunk space and you can still put your seat down. Here is the one I bought from this site for pretty cheap.
