3 weeks ago today I brought home my 2007 DG 6MT Coupe. Today I believe it has enter N/A Beast mode territory So far I have K&N/Z-Tube/Iridium Plugs/Modded Non-Revup plenum & MD 5/16" ISO Kit...also did the clutch mods. Took it for a drive and it is AWESOME! Butt Dyno says 2 cheeks up! I just purchased 07 350Z springs to be picked up next week and I'm eyeing an Osiris tune (got to let the wallet cool off a little).

 

Cool man. Off to a good start. I would wait on the tune until you do HFCs/TPs and a catback exhaust.

 

Yeah...it is either going to be a HFC or just a HR Y-pipe. I really like the stock exhaust and would rather not have to deal with any droning issue/high price from an aftermarket one. I like that my stock now scream when I'm WOT and is silent at cruising speed.

 

Good advice....^....Osiris tunes aren't cheap and it will cost you $100 for a re-tune every time you make a upgrade at my tuner. Best wait and complete your breather mods....Gary

 

Complete mods first, then tune. Trust me youll love the exhaust sound for awhile, then youll start searching ways to increase it. I still have my stock exhaust but im getting ART pipes and Y pipe very soon.

 

Any reason why you have a nonrevup plenum?

 

If I remember right, the 04' plenum is the basis for the MREV2, which MD mods. Some power can be had even without the MD mods.

 

Plus he says it's a "modded" nonrevup plenum, so it could very well be close to an MREV2. There's a few nice long DIY threads on how to go about it.

 

The non-revup plenum give you the extra low-end TQ you want and the spacer will presumably gives back the top-end HP that you lose from the non-revup plenum. I also milled down the 2 front runners on the plenum and a little polishing of casting imperfections. There are many write-ups about this mod and there's a guy that did all the testing with dyno pulls/chart. His modded non-revup plenum was almost identical to an Mrev2. If I had the money I would have bought the Mrev2 as I'm sure it offer better performance but for about $50 for the non-revup lower plenum its a no-brainer for me.

The "Beast Mode" is about the fact that the mod I've done so far has yielded very satisfactory performance for the little amount of money spent. Pulls are noticeable harder and at lower rpm whereas before I had to be above 5k for it to start pulling. I can cruise around town in 4th gear and the moment I'm on the throttle the car respond much quicker than before. I know I'm running lean right now so I'm very optimistic that a tune will get me even better performance.

The N/A part just mean that I'm about done with most of the possible bolt-on for n/a engine. I'm debating the cost benefit of HFC and/or Exhaust system. Both of which are expensive and I'm not disputing power gains...I'm disputing the cost to gain ratio. That's about it for now...but very soon will be getting an Osiris tune and that should do it for performance mod this year.

 

 

I had the same mods as you on my 06 6mt, adding HFC and exhaust was a nice gain. The gain from HFC was almost as noticeable as my DIY plenum, the exhaust, not so much. But it sounds so wonderful

Looks like you rounded in the runner some.

 

Your gains will soon be lost without a tune, and you cannot get into beast mode without opening up the exhaust... You're probably going to be extremely lean going into your first tuning session- I was scared shitless and surprised at my AFR's after just a few breather mods. The cars run super lean everywhere except for full throttle, until tuned properly.
