Help! How do I keep the fluid from draining out of the brake lines!?

I'm pulling my calipers off to rebuild them with fresh seals (and have them sent out to Mike the powdercoater to be PC'd). My question is, how do I stop the stupid lines from continually leaking?

Zip tying them up just slows them down a little. I've put a bolt through them with a nut on the other end (with the crush washers still there) and tightened that down - but it just leaks out between the threads. I put plumbers tape on there - and it didn't do anything.

So what do I do? I'm bleeding the brakes of course but I'm afraid my master cylinder is going to get drained out.

Thanks

If you keep the reservoir cap on, it will create a vacuum and prevent the fluid from coming out as quickly, making it easy to swap calipers, etc.

Try pushing the brake pedal in about 1-2" with a stick. It's what the FSM for my chyrsler recommened. May work on the G, too.

Don't use vise grips or zip ties. You exceeding the min bend radius of the lines and shortening their service life. You know, for the **** that stops the car your drive.

Vice grips, this has been used since they were invented to shut off fluid. To my vast knowledge it's never ruined brake lines any more than zip ties....Gary

put a hose clamp over your bolt that is already in the hose and tighten it up

I have Goodridge SS lines, and don't like the idea of smashing them with vice grips.

As for the zip tie method, I was just zip tying them so the ends were at an elevated point to try to help with leakage. I never subjected them to a crazy bend radius or anything. Right now all 4 are just hanging there anyway.

I got the leakage down to the point where it's quite slow (a few drops an hour?). That might add up over a few weeks, but it's the best I can do for now besides clamping the ends of the lines with rubber pads on eat side.
