squealing start up?

everytime I start my G i has a squeeling noise too it? Im thinking is the AC but it could be that the belts are too tight on the car? Its a 2004, with 41k miles.

The noise you describe is generally worn belts, they're slipping on start up making the squealing noise. Not caused by being too tight but dry and stretched....Gary

I suggest you only use OE belts, they seem to have better quality than what we can buy at the local auto parts store. Give Nissan a call and ask, not Infiniti unless you would enjoy paying 30% more....Gary

Belts will run you around $175 - $200 to have replaced, most likely.

You can buy the oem ac and alternator belts for $20 each. I would say 30min labor for install. My mechanic charged me $20 for install.

This is correct. I just bought both belts from OC Infiniti for $40 and replaced myself in 45 mins the other weekend.

What the heck kind of belts are you using, gold-plated and diamond-laced BLING-BLING gangster ones that you can take off the car and wear around your neck as jewelery?

I replaced mine this past summer and it cost me like $45 total in parts.

This could also happen if your belts are new, and they get a tad loose after a couple weeks and you have to tighten them.

I was piggy-backing on Gary's post. If you have Inifniti do it, it's $225. Nissan is a bit cheaper.

Of course if you do it yourself, which probably 10% of people do, it's much cheaper.

In 45 minutes? It takes that long to jack the car up and get the undershroud off.

I just had mine replaced on 11/14/12 at a local tuner shop and my idle squeak (not just at start-ups but while on the road too) went away. Later that night I started it up and the squeal was much worse than before I replaced them. Since then they have yet to squeal again.... Should I expect it to happen again soon or just not worry about it? Full-time jobless student here. Just wondering.

His coupe is 8 years old with 41K miles on it's clock. Chances are he still has the OE belts it came with which are by now dry and cracked making the squealing noise he's describing. I've replaced more than a few sets of belts, never had a new set make noise of any kind!

They might squeal at first in really cold weather when the car has been sitting for a while because the belts will be really stiff and not very pliable. If they are adjusted right though, they shouldn't squeal at all. You sometimes have to readjust the belt tension a few days to 2 weeks after installing new belts because they will stretch a bit and lead to the occasional start-up squeal.

so true lol.
but yeah after that, they are really easy to change. i actually did mine the last time i changed my oil. they were just starting to develop cracks and i figured i might as well do them while i'm under there. i used gates belts, haven't had any squealing issues.
