What is broken in this pic?

When I bought my car my gas cap cover has always been slightly sunken in. I just want to know what part I need to fix it/shim the cover out to be flush with the body.

If there is a better place to post this let me know! I thought it would be seen in here the best.

See that square part on the left hand side? There's a little stick that's supposed to be there that pops in and out that's what's broken. I'm sure you can buy a replacement or you could just jb weld a rod about 1/2" long on there and it would do the same thing. Mine was like that when I bought it

I will never forget the time I went to the gas station and my cover wouldn't pop open and people looking at me like I stole the car . When it wouldn't pop open I had to use my credit card to slide it through the cracks to pop it open untill I just removed the poper that locks it in place and left the spring loaded rubber stopper and ever since then it works great and I know ill never be stuck trying to put gas in my car again .

Same here. When I got home I just took the side lining out and unplugged the actuator until I got a new one to replace it with.
