Most of the pros and cons have been addressed already. I was thinking about getting an Si over a G because all I could ever find that were decent were 5ATs, which I didn't want. IF you get an Si I hope you'd be going for a sedan. IMHO the coupes don't look as good, and it's more practical. The MPG ratings aren't too different between the two and they both take premium except it's more worth it in one than the other. I'm sure you know which one. Let us know what you decide. (psst.. G35!)

Stop with the "I'm a man, and a man drives a RWD" bs, really. He's talking about purchasing a practical daily driver. To be honest an Si could and probably does handle pretty well around curvy roads. VTEC all day and still get better gas mileage than our cars. A 6MT, assuming that is what he wants to get, has suspension that isn't ideal to many to be driving around daily, especially if he might have a kid or a wife who cares about that sort of stuff. As I've mentioned, an Si sedan would give you speed/handling/good MPG all in one. That's just a suggestion for the guy for real-world practical use. He doesn't seem to intend to be driving like a maniac or racing every car he sees. Just sayin'.

Jg35 your age range is pretty obvious judging by your ALL CAPS and attitude. This guy's been there done that and wants to get something practical so stop letting your ego make yourself sound like an immature child, and actually provide the man with positive input.

Lol I think it's kind of funny you came to a G35 forum and asked this question. But I'm very surprised you are getting appropriate answers. The Honda would probably be more reliable and get better mpg but I believe the G35 is a more powerful much better looking car. I think both are nice but it depends on which vehicle would better suit your situation. Good luck on your journey.

I would be really interested to hear what the guys on the Civic forum say(the mature ones at least). It sounds like you need practicality in your life OP, if the budget is tight I would get the civic. I would totally recommend an 06 G35 if it wasn't for the OC problem. For most, it's not a big problem, like mine is only burning 1qt/4-5000 miles.
I have no tire wear issues, and mine have ~20k+ on them and have worn evenly. She was running beautifully before my idiot *** spun a bearing(completely my fault), but I'm just building an extra engine for $3k and swapping it in. More hp/tq/reliability, and no oil consumption I was pulling 27-28 mpg on my old engine with $400 in intake mods, maybe ~24mpg before the mods.
I have no tire wear issues, and mine have ~20k+ on them and have worn evenly. She was running beautifully before my idiot *** spun a bearing(completely my fault), but I'm just building an extra engine for $3k and swapping it in. More hp/tq/reliability, and no oil consumption I was pulling 27-28 mpg on my old engine with $400 in intake mods, maybe ~24mpg before the mods.

I would put a stock Si against a stock G in an AutoX or parking lot gymkanna any day.

I don't know if you came here hoping that we were going to talk you out of it but it's pretty clear to me that the Honda is your better choice- especially if you're not modding it for performance. All of a sudden all of those questionable benefits to the G become even less important. The whole coffee can issue doesn't even apply in your situation and nobody can deny they make a great car. I was looking for a good, safe, reliable, affordable car last year and that was my first stop- I admit, the guy at the Honda dealership REALLY liked the G... and I REALLY liked the civic I was looking at- but the Civic was meant as a DD... which is what it looks like you want and need. Didn't go that route because it was a "nice to have" not a "need to have-" not because it wasn't a great car.
Maybe you're WANTING a G and NEEDING a Civic- and just needed enough ammo to substantiate purchasing the G instead... "We seek advice when we know the answer but want a different one." Sorry fella- short of that BUY THE G, BE A MEHN DO THE RIGHT THING moron... I think the resounding message here is: "You're getting a Civic, and it's a great choice."

Best I ever got was 23.5 on a 3 hr road trip.

I've gotten 28 mpg a few times in my auto with a long highway trip (think 300 miles no unnecessary stops), that being said I've also gotten 15 mpg with in town driving before, which is something that shouldn't happen with the Honda.

To the OP, the only thing I do NOT like about my G35 is... the gas mileage. My average is about 19MPG. It has improved from 17MPG since I removed my Wolf Pop Charger.

Really appreciate the respectable answers thus far. I drive 32 miles round trip 90% 75mph highway with the occasional (2-3 times a month) 100 mile trip to northern AZ. I'm asking about your MPG because I read quite a few G35s getting 25-28 hwy and others get 19-21? So I'm trying to crack that case. As most of you caught on I'm looking for a respectable DD that's fun and won't kill my bank. My Jeep is getting at best 14 mpg hwy if I feather it behind semi's and I'd hate to find out my G35 only gets 19 mpg doing the same thing.
My first SI I turbocharged and got to 320whp on 11psi so I've already tampered with my cars and I know how once you start modifying it never seems to stop . A fun stock car that I won't have to think about is what I'm shooting for on this purchase. A G will fulfill this prospect correct? I'm pleasantly surprised to hear the G35 is that similar to 350z as far as parts go.
