Brake Light - High Mount LED Strip
I need to replace mine ('04 Coupe). The LED's have gone out one at a time over the past couple of years but now the whole strip is dead. I've done a fair amount of searching the forum and Google. Looks like its a very common problem, in fact there is an older thread trying to get Infiniti to replace them free due to inferior original quality. Looks now like no one is complaining about them anymore. The vendor that was rebuilding them for $60 or so disappeared. Are the dealerships the only option? Several of the online discount dealers don't even show the part as available anymore (I think its: 26590-AC50A). Is there a new fix/source or information I'm missing? Not looking forward to spending $200 for one of the few I can find but need to pass inspection and keep the cops happy. Hopefully there is now a cheaper aftermarket part available that people are using. Any/all information is appreciated. Thanks!

is a 3rd brake light legally mandatory in TX? i know here in NJ and some other states it is not mandatory. i like having one for safety purposes obviously but if it's just a matter of you passing inspection, i would check the law there in TX.
as far as finding a replacement, i haven't really looked into it myself since i have a spoiler with one on it, so i can't help much there.

I just noticed that I actually have 1 LED totally out and 5 LEDs that are very, very dim (you have to look really hard to see they are coming on). Will replacing the entire strip fix it? I just saw the $5 diode replacement fix but since one LED is totally out I guess that won't work for me.

Mine went out too. I tried to replaced it, but find out that it cost like $150 for the LED. I have custom a nom EOM LED for this High Mount Stop Light. It fits perfectly in the tray and its guaranteed to work. .

I am having the same problem with my spoiler brake light on my 03 g35 coupe. I searched around the forums yesterday and saw someone had posted this: http://www.spoilerlights.com/servlet/Detail?no=46 It looks to be the same as the OEM spoiler brake light however its only $50 instead of $200+

I have gotten a ticket in NJ for having a malfunctioning 3rd brake light, it was a fix-it ticket. In November, there were a bunch being sold on ebay for $180-$200. You can find them now for around $150. Or you can buy mine in the marketplace =), used for less than 6 months OEM purchased from Riverside Infiniti.
But yes, $200 is a rip off
