298 is pretty close to 300 there "Bud"

Now if you're talking about 300 RWHP, thats a different story.

I think its new valve timing and cpu.

I don't know if it's true, but I heard the exhaust valves now have variable valve timing, (as opposed to just intake on the < 05' )

I've asked the same questions. I speculate that Nissan added a slightly more aggressive camshaft and new fuel map. It's anybody's guess what else the secret Nissan trolls have done to get more HP out of the VQ.

The VQ has won 11 straight years in a row from Ward's Auto as one of 10 Best Engines. Also, the 35th Anniversary Edition 350Z has 300 HP - same engine as the G35C, slightly de-tuned.

http://www.wardsauto.com/

Although the HP was increased for 05, I'd prefer if Nissan kept the same TQ numbers. Granted there is more useable TQ under the curve with the increased redline, I'd rather have the TQ of the 04 and get the necessary mods to get the increase in HP.

Maybe they did nothing. Maybe the VQ has been under-rated all this time. For many years there was a gentleman's agreement to not exceed 276HP. Even the Evo and Impreza said they "had" 276. With the new Acura RL SHAWD, all bets are off.

Seriously, an Infiniti dealer (good friend in Cali) told me they did it through tweaking all the things that after market guys do. Plenum, cam, ECU, free flow exhaust, etc.

Guys, gto2050 is right, they prob did nothing. I don't know why its so hard to belive that all they are really doing is messing with the numbers for sales alone.

At most they did some ECU adjustments. Don't forget the torque numbers are down.

ps if you break 300hp, then it puts the car in a more expensive insurance bracket (301hp-400hp)

Thats why the 350z stopped at 300 even.

you guys really think they did absolutely nothing?? Thats not flying with me. Not to say I do know without reasonable doubt what they did, but I am sure it was something simple i.e. ecu or maybe even valve timing.

If they didnt at least do that, they most likely put the thingamajig on the whatchamacallit while fudging with the doodad.

Technically, nothing has to be done to a car to increase the redline. that could be done aesthetically and of course a tweak of the ECU just to show off (not saying they did this at all), but just to say the redline really has no connection to power increase.

I still think they most likely put the thingamajig on the whatchamacallit while fudging with the doodad.
