it'll be around $10k for a ls swap or a proper turbo/SC setup. Just take the mustang guy to GMR and your g35 will shine with the double wishbone suspension in the curvey corners compared to the old live rear axel.

Or you could just put a 100 shot of wet nitrous for when the Stangs show up.

I think buying a built block, support mods, and some form of boost will get you there. With that said, making your g faster than car X won't keep you happy. Even with FI, you'll think "damn I just dropped 10k, and I'm not faster than ____". Someone will always be faster than you. You love your car, just keep loving it, whether you boost or not and without worrying if its faster than the one that pulls up next to you.

I agree. For $7k-$8k used, or $13k new (about what a good, somewhat reliable F.I. project is going to cost for the VQ), you could put one of these in your garage - more fun, faster, more reliable than a boosted engine -- with three times the gas mileage. That's what I did, and if I'm in the G and someone pulls up to me at a light in another car of any kind I just smile and remind myself it's all relative.

And be glad that you live in a state where you can justify a purchase like that. If I got one here in Portland it'd be sitting in the garage for like 9 months out of the year, not that I personally would get a bike.

It seems to me the least expensive F.I. project is likely to run well over $8k if done right. I'd be reluctant to add F.I. to an engine with 120k miles on it - at least if I was expecting the engine to last a few more years.

One should be able to buy a late-model, lightly used R6 for that, or quite a bit less if one is willing to go back 3-5 years. It'll get 50 m.p.g. or better, do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, run the quarter mile in 11 seconds, and probably run 60,000 miles or more without any effort on your part beyond changing the oil occasionally and putting gas in it.

Plus, you live in SoCal, so you can ride year round...unlike me, who gets to stare at my bike wistfully four months per year.

Seems an easy choice, to me, but I understand not everyone is into motorcycles. Still, it's a nice problem to have...trying to decide how to spend the kind of money we're talking about on things none of us really need. Best wishes.

I've spent thousands modding my G, it feels great as-is, trying to beat a Mustang? Didn't think anyone around here wasted their time racing Mustangs, oh well. With an extra ten grand I'd rather get a 2K3 Maxima for work and save my G35 for the weekends. Different strokes for different folks. Good luck with your choice. Dropping 10K on a 120K engine might not be your best scenario, just saying.

HAHAHA... OP, I do the same thing. I pass by the garage and just peak at how sexy the G is. You are getting a lot of useful information in this thread. Someone did mention that the EVO is a good platform, which it is. But, if you are willing to spend the money, swapping out your motor for a built VQ, supported with force induction setup would be great. Disregard those saying that your vehicle has 120k miles. Yes the chasis does, but if you build from the bottom-up you should be fine.

ok im having the some problem. iam finding that the vq35de is GARBAGE for modding..... after doing tons of research these motors blow for nothing 400whp is pretty much the limit because of the shitty rods they have in them.....now so what im doing and still upset and ill explain I bought a ATI procharger and today had some momentum headers and test pipes installed ....im probably gonna get like 350-370hp to the wheels which is crap because if you look at the vq37 those motors are beast and with bolt ons some put down 300hp to 320hp the wheels its crazy....so the difference in power will be about 30hp which is nothing .....

Guys, noob question here that has always crossed my mind but have been too scared to ask lol. Is it possible to keep the G forever? Hitting the 200k mark is a bit scary but is it possible to drive it well passed that? New motor maybe? Again, sorry for the noob question. Seemed like a good thread to post it in. Thanks

^ I've heard of people going past 300K easily. You should be fine at 200K.
