I used mine to go to work mixed driving and I usually spent 55 bucks a week using premium gas and I will continue using it once I get it fixed.

I'm a daily driver in NY, NY.
i depends on how well u maintain your car and the road. I have a 04 G Coupe w/113k on it had it for 5 years now. and very little minor promblem.

The G can suck on gas mileage if you don't stay on top of your maintenance and premium prices are no joke right now. The ride itself is very comfortable and pretty smooth. I've had 2 coupes and probably abt to buy a 3rd as a daily driver it's a great combination of luxury and sport. I never notice the groans and creeks people talk abt myslef. My question for you is how are you spinning out in your car with dry roads? Easy on the throttle my friend...

I was about to ask the same thing. But it's all self control, and a lot less the car's fault.

But regardless, I love my 04'. The ride is pretty nice for a sports coupe. At least it will be a lot better than your mustang equppied with a "live truck axle" in the rear...Handles beautiful and the exhaust noise sounds great even in stock form. Gas mileage.. meh. not great but what do you expect from a near 300hp N/A v6 thats 10 years old? They're not speed demons, but I have pulled a couple lengths on even the newer mustang Gt's on the freeway (the 4.6's not the 5.0's. that would be embarrassing). But I think its an all around great car. looks good, sounds good, performs well, and on those days when you're just "a little bit hung over" its mellow and tame and quiet.

BUT. if you go newer and look at G's with the rev-up motor, do a thorough check on maintenance records and look for oil consumption since the rev-up engines are notorious for it.

Realistically how much are you looking to spend?

I'm looking to get a loan for no more than $12,000 but ill be throwing in $5,000 from my mustang. So $6,000 or less is what I'd be paying out of my pocket. I've settled for an 03 and 04 and if they have 100,000+ miles then they are usually in my money range.

oh and to answer the questions about spinning out is that there is so much power that its hard to comfortably take a turn without being very careful. But I guess most the time it is the drivers fault.

I bought my g35 when I was 18 as well

I expected a bit more out of the G35 since its made by infiniti but I still love it.

Pros
-Handles like a champ
-Nice passing power
-Looks sexy
-Sounds nice
-Nice interior
-The car is a blast as a daily driver!

Cons
-A bit heavy, needs bigger HP numbers to compensate IMO
-Strange rattles and squeeks
-Being N/A & with full bolt on's your only looking at about 20-30 HP+

I say go with the 06/07,or one with a revup engine(Redline at 7000RPM instead of 6500) if your going to get a g35,Goodluck

How are you spinning out on a dry road unless you are driving with the VDC off all the time? I have pushed my 03 HARD into turns and the VDC cuts in and keeps it on rails. If I turn off the VDC I can get the back end to come around but its very easy to correct for it if you know how to drive a RWD car well. That kind of driving is pretty harsh on the gas mileage though so I keep that to a minimum.

I think he was talking about the mustang. Its a pretty primitive rear end so it was never destined to handle well, but it should be manageable. Im pretty sure the 4.6 rustangs are only pushing ~260 sum HP at the crank.

If you're into music, you might want to look for a G that already has a double-din conversion and head unit upgrade, or budget one in. The factory stereo drove me nuts for the first three years I owned the car - there's no factory usb/ipod integration in the '03-'04 models...not sure when Infiniti figured out customers wanted this.

I love music! I cant go more than 1 mile driving without blasting mine. Good to know, I just bought a $200 bluetooth pioneer headunit and I plan on getting a faceplate to install it.

Those 4.6 Mustang GT's have a lot more low RPM torque than a G35 does though and they are about 190 or so pounds lighter than an '03/04 Coupe is... while the G35 Coupe has a 53/47 (FR/R) weight distribution compared to the '01 Mustang GT's 57/43 (FR/R) weight distribution. What that equates to is that the Mustang GT has about 210 or so pounds less of weight sitting over its rear wheels in comparison to the G35, and an extra 40+ Lb of torque from the motor spinning the tires, plus a generally more misbalanced car from front to back which an add a pendulum effect in a corner. You usually spin out by accident in normal driving because of an abundance torque, not HP... since most people aren't generally revving their motors to 5K RPM while casually driving through a typical daily driving cornering situation. Those Mustangs are also geared significantly taller than a G35 is, so if you get the tires spinning, it's harder to control than it would be in a car with a shorter speed range in each gear. Then there is the fact that the Mustangs have a live rear axle vs the G35's IRS, and the short wheelbase of the Mustang (about 11" shorter than that of a G35).

Go watch cars race around a circle track if you ever get a chance (or watch them in autocross). Mustang GT's are pretty much the absolute worst car out there for spinning out in corners and ending up in the infield. I would say that in a typical Spectator-Drags race weekend at our local raceway, there are usually about 15-18 or so Mustang GT's out of a total of 90-120 cars, and typically 8 to 12 of those Mustangs end up being eliminated from the head-to-head races due to a spin-out in the corners. Of the other 80-100 cars that aren't Mustangs, only maybe maybe 5 or 6 lose due to spinning out. They are at a clear disadvantage in the corners compared to all of the other cars out there in that situation.
