Dealer recommendation services (need recommendations)

Hey fellas, In a dilemma here

Back ground: I got an 03 g35 coupe 5AT with 25,610 miles. Yes an 03 with 25k miles. Since I picked up the G two months ago I put about 1k miles on it.

Before I got the car it basically sat for 5 years in a garage. When I got it I took it straight to the dealership to cover any TSBs and for an oil change.

The technician rep at Infiniti recommended some services to be done because of its age and not based off mileage.

Here are the recommendations Infiniti recommended:

Perform air filter change $20.00 (replaced it myself)
Replace cabin filter $94.00 (replaced it myself)
Perform rear differential service; found differential fluid dirty/contaminated. $80.00
Perform coolant fluid renewal; found coolant to be in poor condition or contaminated. $135.00
Perform power steering system fluid renewal; fluid was "contaminated/dirty". $129.95
Perform brake system fluid renewal; found brake fluid "contaminated/dirty". $115.00
Perform automatic transmission fluid drain and fill; found AT fluid level low. $169.95

Here are my questions:

1. Will doing these services throw me off my service intervals?

2. How essential is it that I get these done? if so what would be your recommended priority of getting these services done? (most important to least)

3. Should I go to Nissan and have them knock out the recommendations for half the price? (if so what can I honestly trust nissan to do)

The car runs and purrs like a dream.

Any recommendations on what to do would be appreciated. I'm just confused on what my service intervals will be like from now on and I just don't want to be robbed by the stealerships. I hold a lot of credibility to what you guys know and recommend first. Help!!

You can do some of those other services too. As far as trusting Nissan, there are some members here that ONLY go to Nissan to get their cars services, they know how to work on these cars and it's cheaper. These cars are made by Nissan after all!

Some of us refer to Infiniti as the Stealership because of what they charge and their attitudes. Nissan charges 30% less and from what I've noticed since '92 their mechanics are better trained. Nissan recommends all fluids changed at 30K miles but your coupe has been sitting for a long time so I recommend you do a drain/fill on the radiator/trans/differential/brakes soon. Power steering you could easily do yourself, empty the reservoir and fill....takes 15 minutes. If you have a good independent shop you trust they can do these drain/fills but the AT will need the recommended Nissan trans fluid. While it's on the rack check the tires closely for cracks, being ignored for so long can damage tires. Next oil change try using a quality synthetic and WIX oil filters for the best results!
Congratulations on finding such a low mileage G35, you won't need this amount of service until you hit 60K miles on her clock....Enjoy the ride!

DKano and Gary thanks for the advice. It definately helps.

Gary C, when you say quality synthetic are you refering to full synthetic oil? I also plan on doing oil changes myself from this point on and I am unsure if I should go full synthetic.

Full synthetic is the way to go Paul, that will keep your engine internals clean for it's life time with no sludge buildup like Dino oil. Mobil 1 is a good synthetic combined with WIX filters will keep your engine happy. Wall Mart or Costco has Mobil 1 5W/30 at a reasonable price, O'Rileys sells WIX filters for $7= each.

I would def do all of those since it's been 10 years and the car has probably been sitting idle the majority of its life. The cost shouldn't be too great and it will help ensure your car lasts a lot longer. Take it to you independent mechanic if you want to see if the price sounds right or not.

I would flush the brake fluid out as its hydroscopic and attracts moisture but thats about it.
