Hi all,
So I have an 06' coupe and the exhaust has begun to rattle. It's mostly when I'm accelerating into 1st, so at low speeds/RPM's but it's getting worse. I had it checked out and they said it's something inside the muffler, but I'm sure someone here must have experience with this. I 'm pretty sure it would cost quite a bit to have it replaced.
Any recommendations/thoughts?
Thanks!
Dan

Could be the cats too, you might just have to take the whole thing apart and then see where the rattle is.
It's pretty clear to me and to the tech that looked at it that it's in the muffler itself. I'm not saying that it's impossible, but it seems to be emanating directly from there.

Dan, by tech do you mean a mechanic at the dealership? Try going to a "Muffler Shop" those guys deal with this issue 6 days a week. They'll be able to tell if it's the converter cover (common rattle) or muffler....Gary
Gary, thanks for the input. It was at a local shop not the dealership. The guy who looked at it is their "exhaust guy." That's not to say a second opinion could hurt...

In for the solution. I have the same problem, but it sounds like it could be coming from the left front. I think it's a cat, but you know how sounds **** with your head. Let us know if you get it fixed.

Having a similar rattle from my exhaust...only noticable at low speeds. Like 5-15mph. But i have an A/T. Mine seems to be coming from the middle of car so im guessing its my cat cover like Gary said ^

As Gary said, most common is the heat shield coming loose. Its easy to check if you can get underneath the car. Many people simply remove it since its really only to prevent fires if you park in tall dry grass.

I'm having this exact same issue. It only happens at lower rpm's and at idle.Originally Posted by That's G

Ha I removed my heat shields months ago since they were rusted to sh*t and were falling off. Def not those!

It is certainly possible that it is the baffle inside the muffler has come loose and only a new muffler will fix that.
You know, I'm thinking back to my convo with the mechanic and I think he mentioned a baffle... Which is probably why he said "if you can live with the rattle, do that, becuase it's not a cheap fix. I found some used G35 mufflers online here: http://www.z1motorsports.com/350_g35/product_info.php?products_id=5734{595}2972. It seems like a cheap alternative to buy one there and have them install it. Maybe...

Oh, really? I might just remove them this weekend then and see if that fixes my problem.Originally Posted by Kerry Garrison

Certainly cheaper! Any particular cause that you know of for the baffle coming loose? Via some research, looks like this is not TOO uncommon an issue.
