Happy easter fellas.

So i got my new kevlar/carbon spec edition Terminator 2 hood today, but then i realized the vents are right over my ram intake, and obviously im worried that water during rain or whatnot will fall directly down into my engine bay, and into my filter,among whatever other areas it could harm.

I called ViS and asked if they sell the covers, they said no they only came on old hoods.

So should i make my own or what is your input here? Preferably from people with vented hoods and open cone filters (so they can talk from experience)

Its this hood, those vents are wide open, and when on my car, the filter is seriously right under it, which is AWESOME for heat to escape, but i covered it last night with some plastic drop cloth (first night i had it on) cuz i knew it was going to rain, and this morning, sure enough there was about 1 inch of water puddled on the plastic, so that obviously woulda dripped down onto my filter,and mass air sensor and wires. So many Google searches say it wont hurt, but that makes no sense to me?

I'd just get a different intake..

make your own covers or just put a strip of duct tape over the vent that is directly above your filter. its probably not a big deal anyway unless you're driving through heavy rain.

Sorry in advance for creeping you out, but when I saw your avatar, I knew I had seen you somewhere before...realized I saw you in this video a while (more than a year) ago lol.


Anyway back on topic...

You're probably fine unless you submerge the entire filter under water, which in this case you'd either crash into a river or park under a waterfall.

If you'd like, when it rains just put a plastic bag over the filter. Keep it loose so the filter has plenty of room to breathe. You should be fine.

Thanks to everyone for the response, however after some calls to VIS dealers,and reading other sites threads on this topic, i feel like you are most accurate. Seems like with the heat from the engine and what not, the little rain that can get in is no big deal, after all, meth injection kits and other similar cooling kits, actually shoot water directly into the intake.

Just scary seeing such massive (yet awesome) , vents, directly over a wide open filter, as well as the mas air flow sensor cords/plug, and other wires.

Maybe ill fab some removable fiberglass or carbon covers for the underside just to be safe, jus dunno what id use to attach and remove them each time seein that screws would be to deep

There was a thread a while ago where some guy made vent covers for his hood using fiberglass, you might want to try to find that - may help.

I bought a cover from aem. It was called a hydro something... I has problems in my Mazda, the filter got soaked then I would go full throttle and I wouldn't get enough air. Put on that piece solved it. It is basically a waterproof sock.

yea i know INJEN makes a hydro-shield, same thing, but im more worried about the amount of water (that hydroshield doesnt make it water proof, it just helps for little splashes) and the water getting on the mass air sensor and its wires and other electronics.

Probably just going to make some fiberglass covers for the underside for when it rains, and have them hook on to the mesh hooks.

any other ideas are still very welcome :-)

Really??? The AEM one literally made it like waterproof. Im serious. I would clean my car and spray right up in there and take it off and it was dry. Just sayin.

^^ x2 I had a aem splash cover on my s14 cuz i had a full cold air and it never got wet even with these crazy California down pours

lol right, but you guys arent saying if you had an aftermarket hood, that has a massive open vent DIRECTLY above the filter lol. Those hydro-shields even say,they arent by any means 'water proof' they just prevent small amounts of water. As i said, when i covered it the other day during a mild rain storm,about an inch of water built up on the vent, so that huge puddle of water woulda been on my filter (no hydroshield would block all that) and it also woulda gotten all over my mass air flow wires and sensor, thats what im worried about

im just gonna make some fiberglass covers for it, and i will get a hydro shield as well just in case im out and get caught in a storm without the covers im going to make
