Am I burning oil or not?

Got my first consumption test done today, tech said I wasn't consuming, and that I was only down 6mm. This was the first test at 1,000 miles.. Normal? You tell me, should I still be worried?

Check the oil consumption sticky. There is a PDF with a chart that Infiniti uses as an oil consumption guide

My test was just the price of an oil change. You start the process with the service department, they change your oil, then 1k miles later you come back to have the level checked. In my case I was well below the mark and I got a new long block. I am about 3500 miles in and no oil consumption.

If you are like so many other people blessed with the gift of eyesight, you can check yourself for free by using the engine oil dipstick.

I'm not speaking for him but I'm guessing he meant to ask how much it costs to start the oil consumption process.

^ If he's curious about it, likely means he doesn't know yet. Being able to check the oil on the dipstick at set intervals should help him come to a decision.

I agree, he can certainly monitor the situation himself before he has the OC test started. I just figured he already knew he had an OC issue...hard to read into what people mean on the interwebz :-)
